The Talisman of Truth
A/N: If you read my other Marauders/Lily story, The Fourth Crimson Sky, don't worry, I'm not abandoning it. This idea has just been swimming around in my head all day and I cannot write TFCS without getting this down on paper.
That being said, I plan on continuing both stories at the same time, writing whenever the inspiration come to me for either. I hope you enjoy!
The muse for this fanfiction came from tumblr posts made by augustuswatersbutt and anobscureaspirant. Go check them out on tumblr!
Thank you to thetomatowriter (aka anobscureaspirant on tumblr) for all her help on this chapter!
Disclaimer: I do not own the world of Harry Potter. The characters and traits in this fanfiction are based off the magic of J.K. Rowling. Anything recognizable from the T.V. series 'Once Upon a Time' was not intentional. It is hard to stray from the ideas of fairytale which have been around for decades.
Prologue
The man's cloak was fastened with a serpent pendant, which dug into her arm as she held him against the wall.
"Tell me where he is," she growled, but the man just laughed.
She pushed further, moving her dagger closer to his skin. "Do not make me repeat myself."
"It's awfully hard to talk when one is gasping for air," the man finally answered and something in the sarcastic manner of his voice struck her as familiar. She loosened her grip a bit.
"Has anyone told you that you do not look the part of warrior?" he continued, his voice low, taking in her deep red hair and fair skin. Her hair had been tucked behind her in braids, but weaved with small white flowers. Flowers that resembled lilies.
She rolled her eyes. "I learned long ago to not listen to the ignorance of others."
"Would you believe me if I said your love has left you?"
"Never," she cried out. Her eyes flashed in anger. "He would never leave me."
The sigh beneath the hooded cloak was audible to her ears. "Very well," he said. "I will give you the answers you seek, but I require something in return."
The woman laughed. "I do not make deals. I believe letting you live would be payment enough."
He turned serious. "Step away," he said, as if not even hearing her words. "That is my price."
The woman tilted her head, unsure of whether to trust the man or not. Her green eyes squinted, but she did not let go. The man spoke once again. "I would like to show you something."
She let go of him, but kept her dagger trained on her heart. He took a step forward, straightening out his cloak and rubbing his gloved hands together. "Go on, then," she said tersely. "Show me."
Slowly, he raised his hands and the woman moved her dagger closer to him. However, he did not grab his weapon or strike out. He just gently pulled back the hood to his cloak.
She gasped. "Y – You!"
He tried a smile, though it fit awkward on his dark features. "Hello, my friend."
"I defended you! I told everyone –"
"I know what you told them."
"Then, why?" Her voice was desperate.
The shadows reflecting from his eyes flared. "Power is intoxicating."
"I trusted you."
He quickly took a step towards her, reaching out his hands. She retreated quickly, keeping him at arm's length with her dagger. "You still can," he said frantically.
"No! Don't you see? This is ruined!"
"Please –"
She averted her eyes, not giving him the satisfaction of looking into his eyes. "I came to get him back and I've kept my part of the bargain. Where is he?"
His voice was hollow.
"Dead."
A/N: I hope you all enjoyed! As always, this chapter is much shorter than the rest will be, as it is a prologue. I'd love to hear any thoughts you have!
