Of Envelope Licking and Kisses

"Why do we have to do this again?"

"Because yours truly is a hero with fans…well, that and Dad gets a lot of mail."

"Doesn't you dad have robots or something to do this?" inquired Cora, licking the umpteenth envelope of the day. She winced at the taste of the glue. Trashcan watched their banter with amusement from his place on the bed.

"I don't know, probably. But I think it's kind of cool," replied the black-haired robot boy at the desk beside her.

Cora arched an eyebrow. "Yeah, that's because you're writing the letters. I'm the one licking your envelopes."

Astro smiled down at the disgruntled girl on the floor, surrounded by envelopes.

He moved down to sit next to Cora's spot on the floor. "Here's some more," said Astro, placing another stack of unsealed fan letter responses in front of her.

She widened her blue eyes. "More?!" she snapped. "Come on, my lips are all dry!" complained Cora. "I'm never gonna get this taste out of my…" Without a second thought, Astro pressed his lips against hers in a chaste yet eloquent kiss. Her eyes widened in surprise before closing as she melted into his embrace.

Their kiss lasted only several seconds, which felt like forever, when suddenly a knock on the door caused them to abruptly break apart. Though their lips no longer touched, their faces were still several inches away from each other.

"Astro? Cora? Are you all right in there?" called Dr. Tenma from the other side of the door.

Cora opened her eyes slowly, biting her lip in an attempt to hide the growing smile on her face. They exchanged a glimpse and then looked at the door. Astro awkwardly moved away from her a bit.

"Yeah! We're fine, Dad!" he called back. He and Cora shared a nervous glance.

Dr. Tenma pushed the door open and stepped into Astro's room. "I have more letters," he announced, moving away from the door to allow Orrin the robot to stumble into the room.

"Here are your letters, Master—err…Astro!" stuttered Orrin. In his arms was a large box of letters.

"I suppose we'll leave you to it then," said Tenma, backing out of the room. "Come along, Orrin."

"Yes sir, Doctor…I mean…Bill," said Orrin, following Tenma.

Astro looked at all the letters in front of them, the turned his gaze to Cora, a provoking smile growing on his face. "Looks like you still have more envelopes to lick," he teased, his brown eyes flickering.

Cora narrowed her eyes and smirked. "Don't make me hurt you!" she sing-songed. She giggled, seconds later Astro joined her.

It was worth the hours spent licking envelopes to have him kiss her.

Most definitely.

The end.
