Christmas Holly by Katherine Julia
"Merry Christmas, Gallagher Girl," Zach said with a grin as he sat down next to me on the bench.
I was sitting in the small park in town, watching the children laughing and skating on the frozen pond, and a group of boys having a snowball fight in the small grove of pine trees. A blanket of snow covered everything, and the bright sun glinted off of ice. Above me, hanging off the little gazebo, icicles dangled and holly swung.
I rolled my eyes at my boyfriend when he winked at me, gesturing to the holly. Then I grinned when he leaned over and gave me a quick peck, before pulling back and gazing at me contemplatively.
"So, doing anything special for the holidays," he asked, making conversation. As he spoke, his gloved hand played with the snow and ice coating the wood separating us.
"Zach," I said exasperatedly. "You know I'm visiting my dad's parents for Christmas."
"Must have slipped my mind," he said, his green eyes glinting. The red beanie covering his dark hair started to slip lower over his eyes, and he huffed as he pushed it back up for the thousandth time in a minute. "So we definitely can't see each other then?"
"Zach. My grandparents live in Nebraska."
"Cam," he whined, his face screwing up. "Why can't I see my girlfriend during the most romantic time of the year?"
"Zach," I mimicked. "Because she'll be hundreds of miles away spending time with her family."
"Party pooper." He stuck his bottom lips out in a pout.
"Hey," I said, taking his hand. "I'll still see you when I get back for New Years. And I promise we'll crash as many town parties as we can, watch so many fireworks our eyes get tired and count down until the ball drops. The whole works."
As I spoke, Zach couldn't help but smile. When I'd finished, he looked at me mischievously. "Can I have a hot, sexy New Year's kiss, too?"
"Zach," I groaned, but laughed.
"Hey, you owe me for missing Christmas with me!" he says, raising his eyebrows expectantly.
"Of course you can," I say with another laugh.
"Promise?"
"Cross my heart and hope to die."
Zach grinned. "Great, Gallagher Girl! Now come back over here. That other kiss doesn't even come close to what I was hoping for when I hung that holly there."
A/N
Hey everyone!
Here's another drabble/oneshot, hahah. I know it isn't anywhere near Christmas, but I've been feeling really in the mood all day. I've had the ac on high, been playing Christmas music nonstop, and keep burning cinnamon candles. I even changed my background on my laptop to a picture of NYC at Christmas (which is truly breathtaking, for anyone who hasn't been). So, when I sat down to work on Brotherhood of Ioeseph Cavan, I realized I just had to write this instead. Don't worry though, I'm still going to work my other story, too ;)
Love always,
Katie
P.S. Merry Christmas! (6 months in advanced).
