In the Wind
The wind rifts through my hair from where I sit, watching the luminous sunset from a cliff in my Valley. The breeze, not to cold, feels amazing on my skin. I am perfectly content, though I do wish for some company…
As if called, I soon hear my best friend, (and secret love) Asbel, calling my name from behind me. I slightly twist my body to see him running my way, his lean, but muscular, body working hard with each step. I watch his silently as he draws nearer, then stops before me, slightly out of breath.
"May I join you?" he asks breathlessly, his cheeks slightly pink. I wonder for a moments if he's blushing, but quickly brush it off as being from running.
I smile softly, then nod mutely. He smiles his own dazzling grin, making my heart skip a beat, and sits next to me. I turn back to the magnificent sunset, the sun a cherry red now. It cast a beautiful orange glow over the hills in the Valley of the Wind. Chills run down my spine at the sight of it.
"It's beautiful" I murmur.
"Mm..." I hear from Asbel.
"But..." he adds unexpectedly, "Not as beautiful as the girl sitting next to me."
I turned to look at him with a wide-eyed, shocked stare, my cheeks glowing a brilliant red.
Did he really just say that?
He smiled gently, so unlike to his normal blinding grins. The sincerity shown in his brown eyes, and I knew he meant what he said. His face was as flushed as mine, if not more so.
"Nausicaa," he spoke, nervousness and insecurity pronounced in his voice, "I-I've been meaning to tell you, though I haven't gotten the nerve to until now. I l-love you, Nausicaa."
His cheeks grew three shades darker as he said this. I sat there slowly digesting what he said. He loved me? Oh! He loved me! He really did! Joy bounded in my heart as I looked apon his anxious face, awaiting my reply.
Before I lost my nerve, I quickly leaned towards him and pressed my lips to his slightly chapped ones. Then a leaned back just as quickly and blushed harder at my boldness. A light smile played on my lips as I watched the expressions flit across his face.
"I love you too," I say quietly.
Asbel looked gob-smacked. I could almost see it sinking in. Then his expression settled to one of joy, a large grin settling onto his face.
My smile grew into a grin as I turned back to the sunset, resting my head on his shoulder. He wrapped his strong arm around my waist hesitantly, but gains confidence when I don't move away. We sat there and watched the sun slowly dip below the horizon, comfortable in each others presence.
Well, there you have it! I don't know about you, but I think Nausicaa is a bit OCC. But, you know, its my first try.
