DM Better To Own Up Than To Lie
All was quiet in the Gru residence. Gru had dropped off and dozing away. Margo and Agnes were playing a game. Edith had been practising her ninja skills, when she had had enough, she wondered into the little room upstairs. It was full of stuff that been around long before she or her sisters were born. Some stuff had belonged to Robert Gru, her father's father.
Edith looked at the stuff for a long time. The thing she liked most was Gru's box of war planes. She picked out a black one, perfect for a ninja she thought. But the plane slipped from her hand, it hit the shelf and landed on the floor. Edith picked up the toy plane and looked all over it. There was a big paint chip on one of the wings. Edith's heart was beating fast when she saw it.
She put the plane back in the box with the others and put the box back on the shelf. All day she could only think of the broken plane. At dinner time Edith wasn't hungry, she just picked at her food. ''Are you feeling ill sweetie?'' Lucy asked worriedly. 'I'll bring her some ginger ale later just in case'' Gru said.
After a bath and cleaning her teeth, Edith and her sisters were chilling out when she heard Gru shout in horror, then moan, ''For years this plane was perfect and now it's broken''. Gru looked sad as he came in to kiss the girls goodnight. ''What's the matter?'' Edith asked anxiously. ''Oh Edith'' Gru sighed with tears in his eyes ''One of my toy planes has a big paint chip on one of its wings''.
This made Edith feel worse than ever, what could she say about this?, that Kyle chewed it or a minion ran into the shelf and made box with all the fall on the floor?. ''You look like you needed this'' Gru said handing her the ginger ale.
''Um about the plane'' Edith gulped, ''it was me, I accidently dropped the plane when looking at it, and I'm sorry''. She buried her face under her duvet and started to cry. Gru thought about what to say for a moment. ''Edith'' he said gently ''come out and listen''. Edith slowly crawled out from under her duvet and Gru hugged her. ''You were brave to tell me'' he continued,
''it's difficult to own up, when I was your age I smashed a mirror, I worried for a whole day before telling my father''. ''What happened?'' Edith asked. ''He said I was honest about what I'd done'' Gru finished, ''That's when I learned it is best to tell de truth''. ''But I still broke your plane that meant lots to you'' Edith said quietly sipping her ginger ale. She felt awful about upsetting her father.
''Yes'' Gru said ''But you didn't lie to me about it, and beside it's only the wing that has a paint chip, I think the minions can get it fixed''. ''Cool'' Edith said, feeling better about the whole thing. She woke the next morning to find the minions painting the chipped wing. ''Looks as good as new'' she declared. ''Yes it does'' Gru smiled.
The End
