Disclaimer: I own neither the Hunger Games nor Twilight. If you are reading this, you can very clearly see that my name is not Stephanie Meyer or Suzanne Collins, who own their respective storylines.
Main characters (by this I mean the three main character who are just bound to become locked into a love triangle... and one of them is the best friend, the other this (hot) boy she knows for some reason... moving on):
Katniss: Can shoot arrows, hunt, climb trees and gets her hands on a bow very quickly. We knew she was going to win from the moment that was revealed (oh, and the fact that she is the main character, which is sort of a giveaway). There is no real danger as Careers don't know the fine arts of burning down trees or not erupting into pointless monologues while in a fight to the death.
Bella: Mainly useless. Clumsy, personality-less, will set back the feminist movement years, and a total Mary Sue. If you're lucky you might get through this one book/movie only wanting to strangle her twice... at which point you notice that you have a whole series left to go. What a fantastic *cough* role model for girls.
Peeta: That boy Katniss feels indebted to, who is a baker and whose main skills comprise of almost managing to get himself killed. His redeeming feature is the fact that he is so much better than everybody else, a sentence which almost completely contradicts the last one, but Katniss and Finnick said it. For some reason, despite saying that she does not love him for the whole first two books, in Mockingjay she suddenly does. Oh sorry, spoilers.
Edward: Um, yeah, where to start. This one hundred year old possible virgin falls in love with, a vice versa, a seventeen year old girl. His charm: he sparkles! And also he is a vampire... which makes Bella happy as he frequently states he wants nothing more than to drink her blood, except maybe follow her around and watch her sleep... oh wait, he already does that. Creepy, and if the book is to be believed, clearly the perfect guy.
Gale: Like Twilight (see any themes), this love interest does not really develop until the second book. He is Katniss's best friend, and they hunt together.
Jacob: Like the Hunger Games and ditto ditto ditto, just replace the name 'Katniss' with 'Bella', and the word 'hunt' with 'do nothing'. Perfect.
Until the next time I feel like comparing these two stories. Don't forget to review.
