Changing into loose fitting sweats and an old t-shirt, she folded her legs underneath her on the sofa. Kuroko slowly approached her, resting his hand on the crown of her head. "Are you... Are alright now?"
Eyes lacking of all life, she cast her gaze through the open window, looking at the moon which seemed bigger and brighter than it had ever before. At a loss for words, Kuroko kept quiet and watched her with clear blue eyes as she continued to stare outside. She tugged at her hairband before combing her hair back several times, causing the soft strands to fall over her face when she turned and dropped her head forward.
"No Tetsuya..." Her low voice is quiet and difficult to hear as she raises her eyes to meet his. "I'm not."
"It's okay." He said, offering a sad smile before taking a seat next to her. "Come here."
With her legs still folded, she leaned towards him until her face rested near the base of his ear, as if she was going to share a secret with him. She tilted her head, pressing her lips against the crook of his neck, the simple action sending a shiver down his spine.
"Sorry..." She pulled back while taking a deep breath, her voice subdued. Kuroko knew she was trying to calm her emotions as her glassy eyes locked onto his. "I know I should be over him and I know I said I was ready for this - for us - but..."
Her eyes were full of tears as she attempted to hold back her sobs, almost choking on her words as she struggled to speak. The sight was enough to make his heart ache as he watched the first tear fall, the rest following in an unbroken stream.
Kuroko could feel his stomach drop and the blood drain from his face as he watched sorrow envelope her. He balled his hands into fists and wondered why? Why couldn't he be enough to fix her?
It almost felt as though a warm, yet rough hand had wrapped around his heart and began to squeeze softly. His throat ached as tears began to sting his eyes, and when he blinked he felt the warm streaks of tears cascade down his cheeks, his heart shattering in the process.
Why?
