No matter what happens here, remember I'll always love you." Shepard said as she touched his face one last time, desperation in Kaidan's eyes as his hand stretched out for her. "I love you too." He's said, suppressing the tears that threatened to fall.
Kaidan thumbed her name plaque as all stood watching him. His shoulders racked as sobs escaped him. "Joker, we're going back." His cracked voice, barely above a whisper, seemed to reach through the entire crew deck. He clenched the name plaque tightly as he felt Joker step in line next to him. "Alenko, we…I…" Joker had no words. He simple bowed his head and did as he was told, no fight left in the once snarky pilot. Joker had just finished placing the plaque for EDI there, and little will to believe anything good could be found in the aftermath. Each crew member realized the implications of their impending actions, and slowly left the memorial wall in preparation for what they knew would be a futile attempt.
When he was the final body standing there, he let the tears fall. "Dammit Shepard, you promised. I'm waiting for you. I will find you. I haven't forgotten!" He yelled, fist slamming against the side of the elevator as he stepped in. As Kaidan stepped into Shepard's cabin, he felt a chill pass over him. 'So much for ghosts being a myth' He thought sadly as he layed down on the bed where so many memories had been made as of late. It would take Joker a few hours to reach Earth from where they were, and Kaidan hadn't slept in days causing him to drift off into a restless, heart wrenching sleep.
"Shepard, I know I don't know how to say how I feel." Kaidan said, almost sadly as he ran his thumb along her soft jawline. "Those three words are said too much, they're not enough." He said, struggling for a way to express his love for the woman who only showed vulnerability and doubt to him. "Lie with me and forget the world?" Kaidan said softly, staring into her deep blue eyes as she fell down next to him seemingly lost in thought for a moment before placing a tender kiss on his lips. A shudder rippled through Kaidan at her touch, and for a brief moment all the universe ceased to exist as he pulled her close, deepening the kiss as she fumbled with the buckle on his pants slowly. The love he felt could not be expressed through words, but in his actions he could tell her.
"Major, we'll arrive in the London ruins in approximately ten minutes." Specialist Traynor called over the com link, pulling Kaidan from his sleep. A small tear trickled down his cheek as he gave Shepard's bed one last look before exiting to the CIC.
