I bought Van Helsing when it came out on DVD October 19. I wrote the beginning of this chapter when I first saw the movie and became interested in it again after watching the DVD. I had forgotten what an amazing story it was! I hope you enjoy this story and I want to thank Michael (you know who you are) for my inspiration. Thank you. Remember to read and review!

The moon had just risen. The cool night breeze fluttered the ivory, satin curtains in her bedchamber. A sudden chill crept up her spine. She was not alone. Turning quickly, she saw a silhouette dart into the corner where the light from her candle could not emanate. She had been prepared for him.

The rough hilt of the sword that she clutched in her hand gave her a false sense of security. Soundlessly, she drew the sword with ease. Power flowed through her as she took a single step forward.

"I've been waiting." Her tone was throaty, seductive. She had carried on this façade for too long, and she refused to relinquish what little hold she had on him now.

"You have only grown more lovely in my absence, child." The compassion that accompanied that statement could be heard when his heart was still warm. Now, all that he was concerned with was the lust that consumed him each time he heard the beat of her heart.

"Thank you, my lord." Her gaze wandered downward. Her hand tightened around the hilt of the sword. She was prepared to strike at any moment.

"Aurelia, it has come to my attention that your feelings may not be as...true as you make them to be. Is there something you long to reveal to me?"

Her body grew cold. Fear gripped her small form like a vice.

"Nothing my lord. I love you as I always have." She could hear the rustle of his cloak as he walked toward her.

"Then what is this that you hold so tightly within your grasp?" With one swift motion he wrenched the sword out of her grip, throwing it to the floor. The clatter reverberated off of the thick, marble walls of the bedchamber.

Placing two fingers under her chin, he forced her gaze to meet his.

"Why must you tell me untruths? I give you all that you desire, and this is what I get in return? Tell me how you are different from all of the others and I will spare your life; your warm blood with never touch my tongue." She was silent. The words, sentences that she had so expertly prepared had escaped her now.

"Then I shall have to take you without consent...I am not disappointed." Fangs bared, he leaned in, his breath dancing across her neck. Distantly, she heard the bedroom window shatter, the night breeze blowing his cloak around her. He stopped short, listening. There was another in the room. Heavy footsteps neared the place where she was being held tightly within his grasp.

"I thought you would have know better the second time around," A rough voice quipped. He was quickly knocked to the ground, taking Aurelia with him. He let out a sharp hiss, grabbing at her. Making an attempt to pull away, she propelled herself away from him, reaching out blindly. The stranger reached down, gripping him by his cloak.

"Leave her be." With that, he plunged the stake that he had been holding into the beast's heart. He let out a bloodcurdling scream before falling into a heap at the man's feet. Aurelia gazed up in horror, wishing for the man to disappear into the darkness from whence he had come.

"Why have you come?" Her shaky tone betrayed her.

"To save you." As he spoke, she could feel a slight presence from behind. Suddenly, a sharp pain erupted in the back of her skull. She slumped to the ground, darkness threatening to overcome her being.

"So nice to see you again, Gabriel." The voice was the last thing that floated across her mind before she blacked out.
