Dragon Age: Heroes of Ferelden

"Men and women from every race; warriors and mages, barbarians and kings... the Grey Wardens sacrificed everything to stem the tide of darkness... and prevailed."

—Duncan, Warden-Commander of the Grey Wardens in Ferelden

The previous several years have seen two dragon flights ranging out of the Frostbacks and Orkney Mountains, even though it was thought that dragons had been hunted to extinction by Nevarran dragon hunters during the Steel Age. The dragons devastate the countrysides in Orlais and Nevarra, and all attempts to slay them end in disaster. Despite the devastation, some see the return of dragons to Thedas as a glorious sign...Chantry scholars, however, claim that this is the worst of omens.

Because of the dragon sightings, Divine Faustine II names the next age as Dragon Age, instead of the Sun Age, predicting that it will be an age of violence and upheaval instead.

-World of Thedas, Volume 1: An Erratum by Brother Genitivi

How true Divine Faustine was in her prediction. Whether through premonition gifted by Andraste and the Maker himself, or simple foresight, I fear I will never know. However, what I do know is that the Ninth Age of Thedas will be written in the tomes of history as the darkest age of the world's existence. As early as 9:2 Dragon, one could see the tumult it had already wrought with its coming. Antiva shaken by Civil War, the ruling Archon of Tevinter usurped by his constituents, Maric Theirin's Insurrection against Orlais. By 9:13 Dragon, the dwarven fortress of Bownammar, home to the legendary Legion of Dead, falls to Darkspawn. 9:21 Dragon, the Viscount of Kirkwall is executed by the Templar of the Chantry for not bowing to their demands. And one of the most heinous acts, 9:22 Dragon, maleficarum attempt to assassinate the Divine.

An Age of such calamity, such conflict, could have only led to the events in 9:30 Dragon, where my chronicle begins. It is a work of the Maker himself that seven individuals, seven Grey Wardens, appeared in Thedas' gravest time of need, ending a dark pestilence that would have consumed all in its wake before it truly began.

I take it upon myself to be the scribe for their tale, to tell how these Heroes of Ferelden gathered the might of their countrymen and stopped the Fifth Blight from spreading across all of Thedas. Their names shall forever be etched into the annals of its history-

Alistair Theirin, Forgotten Son of Redcliffe

Aedan Cousland, Lord of Highever

Duran Aeducan, Prince of Orzammar

Solona Amell, Mage of the Circle Tower

Natia Brosca - Casteless of Dust Town

Theron Mahariel - Ranger of the Dalish

Kallian Tabris - Commoner of Denerim's Elf Alienage

Without their efforts, the world as we know it wouldn't exist as it does this day. The unique circumstances behind each individual's induction into the Order of the Grey and the part they played at Ostagar will be the first subject of my recounting.

Author's Notes:

Don't know if this is an original idea, and I don't care if it is. The concept has been bouncing around in my head for awhile, and got me real jacked, so here's my rendition of it. Character Bios and Development over the Fifth Blight to be updated at my whimsy. Prepare for the abstract epic about to be told, a story of what would happen if Ferelden ended up with seven wardens instead of two! (*gasp*) Won't exactly be told as a conventional story, think more of a summary of events. Anyways, hope it entertains!

I claim no ownership of the Dragon Age franchise and have no intent to profit from what I create~
