A/N: Uhm, Lime here :D I don't own DCMK. Enjoy~

A sharp click was heard as a man unlocked the gate to his home. He paused, hesitating, before his hand applied a gentle pressure to it and it creaked in return. It was a cold day and his breathes were visible. He tugged his coat closer to his body as a freezing wind swept past. and yet, instead of entering his warm house, he remained there. He stayed frozen right outside his gate. He had thought he could handle it, but he was afraid. Scared that his memories would overtake him if he went further.
But he walked on anyway. He walked to his front door. He gave a small smile as he drifted to how he had met him.
*-*
The doorbell rang through the house. Sleepy and coffee deprived, he had answered the door with a scowl. Which only deepened when he realized that a complete stranger was at his doorstep. He had attempted to shut the door in his face, but the person was faster than him and stuck his foot out, intercepting it.
"I'm Kuroba Kaito, magician extraordinaire, nice to meet you," Then he had smirked knowingly, "Tantei-kun"
*-*
He made it past the front door and started for his room. Along the way, he passed the kitchen.
*-*
"Do you ever eat?" Kaito had said it jokingly but had frowned at his answer.
"When I remember to."
"That won't do! Good thing Ran stocked up on food recently. I'll make you a lunch that you'll never forget!"
10 minutes later had the alarms blaring, thick smoke wafting around and a string of curses coming from a stunned magician in the kitchen.
The said magician poked his head out of the kitchen door and grinned sheepishly at him.
"Takeout?"
*-*
He passed the library.
*-*
"Get off," shinichi grumbled.
"But I'm boreddd," Kaito whined and snuggled closer. "Put the book down and play with me."
"No."
He pouted petulantly. Then he stretched himself to block Shinichi's view.
"You're being a nuisance."
"Play with me!"
"Play with yourself."
"Its no fun alone."
Kaito pouted even more before yelping when Shinichi pulled him closer.
"Then read with me."
"..."
"..."
"...Scoot over, I can't see."
*-*
He entered his room and collapsed on his bed. He finally dropped all his masks and let his feelings show.
*-*
"Shinichi..."
"What is it, Ran?"
Her voice was hoarse and strangled as she spoke.
"Kaito ," she broke off in sobs, "...he's gone."
*-*
"Why?" he whispered. "Why'd you leave me?"
He lifted his arm to cover his eyes as he started to cry.
He laid there until he was exhausted. He lifted his arm, and for a brief moment, saw Kaito. Kaito silently watching him with a soft, comforting smile. Kaito wearing his Kid ensemble, along with a pair of majestic, white wings. And then he was gone. He was all alone again.
And Shinichi started crying all over again, but this time, less sad. Because he knew Kaito was watching over him. That Kaito would always be with him.

A/N: Ahaha. This made me sad. This should never ever happen. EVER. Reviews are appreciated. Mmkay, Sayonora~ :)
