Once upon a time, there was a meerkat named Timon, and a warthog named Pumbaa. They both came from different parts of the Pride Lands, and were incredibly different (species aside). Timon, you see, was very lively and energetic, though he could tend to be selfish. Pumbaa was a gentle giant, and though he wasn't the smartest creature in the world, he was really nice to talk to.
One day, these two creatures met. By that time, both of them had been ostracized, cast off from their own kind, just for being a little different. Though they were exact opposites, they somehow became acquaintances.
Soon after that, they became friends, and after that, best friends. It was obvious to everyone, that they both loved each other more than anything in the world.
However, in spite of acting like a family, many did not view them as such. They did not believe that two males should be as comfortable with each other as they were, let alone said males being from two completely different species.
Timon and Pumbaa didn't listen to those criticisms, though. They continued living as they normally did: Playing together, eating together, and sleeping together.
However, as time went on, it soon became apparent that all the creatures around them were finding mates. Pumbaa and Timon did not care - they had each other.
But soon, those animals began having baby animals - something Timon and Pumbaa could not do.
Although both of them were upset by that fact, they did not let one another know, lest that hurt each others' feelings.
One day, however, a solution came. Upon the dry Earth, surrounded by vultures, laid an abandoned lion cub. Though they were unsure at first whether taking in the baby-version of one of their predators was a good idea, eventually their hearts won out, and they rescued the cub.
The cub later revealed himself to be Simba. When Timon and Pumbaa asked him where he had come from, he said he had been cast off - just like them.
Timon and Pumbaa then came up with the most wonderful idea! Since Simba was without a family, and they were without a child, they would become Simba's family!
Simba was hesitant at first, but soon realized that the warthog and the meerkat would make as good a family as any.
A/N The most banned children's book of all time, is titled, "and TANGO makes three", and it is the most adorable thing ever! It tells the story of two male penguins, and their adopted child, Tango. It was so adorable, and if you haven't read it, you need to. Like right now. Anyway, that's what this was inspired by, so if you enjoyed this, you will enjoy that!
