My way of putting it. This isn't how it is; this is merely the analogy that makes the most sense to me. You might well have your own way. That's cool. But I'm hoping this might help someone… somewhere… see things a little clearer.

This is what God wants from you: a hug.

Some people know He's there. Or rather: they admit He's there. They let Him hug them. They take comfort from His gentle embrace. They lean on Him for strength. They enjoy His warmth, and His love. His arms, wrapped around them, protect them, just a little, from the hurt that comes from the world. He holds them together when things get so bad, they could break. He carries them when the Earth shakes. Other people see Him holding them, see the comfort they draw from Him, see His love. They don't always admit it in their heads, but they know it in their hearts. When these people's time draws near, they fall into His arms, and He gently lifts them away to that special place.

Some people refuse to admit that He's there. Sometimes they try to see Him through the outcome of cards, or a chant, or Ouija boards, rather than looking straight at Him. Some refuse to admit He's even there. He always stands right beside these people – close enough that they barely have to reach out to touch Him, but far enough away that He doesn't have the embrace He so craves, because He loves them enough to let them make their own decisions. Every second of every day, He's right beside them, should they choose to let themselves love Him. He stands there always, offering them an endless stream of chances, ignoring every rebuke. His arms are always outstretched, blood dripping from the wounds of the nails in his hands. When these people's times draw near, they fall alone, because they refuse to let Him catch them. They have chosen to go through life without His hands to catch them, and so they fall alone, and plummet down to the dark depths.

It's your choice.
