Chapter 1

Amy's head turned to the side when a hand made contact with her cheek. Blinking the bangs away from her eyes, she glared at her step-father. "Why did you go out without my permission? Didn't I tell you to never leave the house?" He hollered and started taking out his belt. Amy knew that he was going to hit her really badly again like last time. When he held the belt high to hit her, the doorbell rang and to Amy's luck it was her mother. Amy's step-father had threatened her that if she told her mother about everything, he would leave them forever. Poor Amy had no other choice but to keep quiet. As her father quickly put his belt back on he yelled at Amy to go to her room.

Amy locked her bedroom door and collapsed on her bed. She cried and cried and took the photo frame which held the photo of her, her mother and her real father. She held the photo frame close to her chest and hugged it as tears trailed down from her eyes. "Why?" She sobbed as she looked at her father. "Why did you leave us?"

"Amy? Amy! Why is the door locked?" The pink hedgehog heard her mother yell from the other side of the door. Wiping her eyes with the sleeves of her hoodie, Amy set down the photo frame back in its place. "Amy, I've bought some pizza, your favourite, come down now."

"I'm not hungry mum; you and dad enjoy your dinner." She clenched her teeth as she said dad, glaring at the floor.

"Is everything okay sweetie?" Amy's mother asked, seeming concerned.

"Everything is great, mum. I'm not hungry; I ate a burger when I was out with my friends." The rosy female replied, falling back on the bed.

"Oh, well whatever you say." Amy sat up when her mother walked away, the sounds of her footsteps getting fainter until she couldn't hear it no more.

"Maybe I should just run away, there's no point in living in this house anymore, although I am going to miss my mum very much." Amy whispered to herself, wondering why she had never thought of this before. Jumping up to her feet, she went to her wardrobe and took an empty backpack. Wondering what to stuff inside, she took two pair of jeans, a long-sleeved red shirt and a black turtle neck top. Looking around the room to see if she hadn't forgotten anything else, she saw the photo frame, grabbed it and stuffed it inside her backpack. Amy looked at her clock to see that it was 7:00. "I'll have to wait for another 3 and a half hour and then get out." She sighed.

When it was 10:30 Amy slowly opened the window and looked down "I'm so lucky that my room is in the first floor" she thought to herself, climbing down while also looking down. She took another good look at the house before walking away.
