Double Check
"Daniel?"
"Mmm?"
"Are you awake?"
"Mmm."
Janet rolled onto her side and propped herself up on one elbow to peer over Daniel's shoulder at his face. "You sure?"
Daniel grunted, but didn't roll over to face her. "Positive," he slurred. "What's wrong?"
"I just... um... it is just you in there... right?"
Daniel sighed and rolled onto his back. "Why do you keep waking me up to ask me that?"
Janet lifted his arm to wrap it around herself as she scooched closer to his side. "Because I keep having the same dream, where Martice somehow clung onto your consciousness during the removal process and... pokes his annoying little head out at very inconvenient moments."
Daniel gave a sleepy laugh. "As in, we're making love and I suddenly start barking orders?"
" Are you mocking me?"
"Yes."
Janet sighed and stroked his chest. "I just... missed you. Is that so terrible?"
Daniel squeezed her gently and kissed her forehead. "Not at all. I'm sorry."
Janet relaxed against him and smiled contentedly.
"I'm glad you took my body back."
Janet tensed in horror. He'd heard her argument with Martice? "Oh God..."
Daniel laughed and rolled on top of her. "It's all yours."
