Numair stared in shock at the grave of Daine. He had been doing so for hours. "Why, Daine?" he whispered. Then he started singing. He could not help it.

Oh Daine, why did you go?

Magelet……why did you leave me?

I loved you so much------

Yet you left me------

I didn't think you could ever die

Yet I saw you wounded…

I did not think you could ever cry

Yet I saw tears on your face…

I loved but you left me…

Why, oh Daine, why?

Numair continued staring. Then he sang again, (with more energy in his despair)

We battled mages together

We fought till almost death

Yet look here you are

How did you come to be this way?

I know you died in a battle

But you were without me

I thought you were safe

But LOOK!

YOU'RE NOT------!

I fought-

There he stopped, and cried some more. The song only made it worse, but he continued singing, as if this way he could hold on to her longer:

I fought alongside you-----

And suffered with you------

But here you are

And I can no longer be with you

I didn't see you then

I did not help you-----

I'mtorn! I cannot forget you-----

And I know I cannot live on

Oh magelet, I was with you always

Oh magelet, I helped you

And oh magelet, the gods know----

How you helped me----

In our darkest moments (with more energy once more) you were there

Comforting me----

I blessed the gods for you

But here you are NO MORE!

WHY-Y-Y----

DID YOU LEAVE ME!
YOU WERE ALWAYS WITH ME
BUT HERE YOU ARE-
(his tears failed him)

With… out…ME!

Now he could not sing any longer, and his knees failed him. He sank in front of the grave, and put the flowers he had brought on it. He kissed the grave.

After a long while, he heard a whispering voice,

"Come, Veralidaine Sarrasri."

"I come, Great One."

It was unmistakably the Black God and Daine's voice. Numair's face was ashen. Then he screamed,

"If you took her, take me as well!" And the Black God took him.
