This is just something I thought of and decided to write.
It was over. Dean was dead. Really dead no amount of begging or negotiation was going to bring him back. Sam knew that without a doubt.
Sam wishes he could take comfort in the fact that in the end, it wasn't something supernatural that took Dean out. This was a pure accident it wasn't supposed to happen. Sam didn't mean to.
Sam sits curled around Deans bleeding form. He looks down at his brothers soft and peaceful looking face. The tears fall freely from Sams' eyes as he looks down at his forty-year old brother.
"It wasn't supposed to end like this." He hugs his brother's body closer.
What Sam can't see is Dean's spirit standing beside him. He's not angry at his little brother. "It's okay Sammy," Dean says as he waits for Billy to appear and finally take him to his eternal punishment. Hell.
As Sam holds his brother's body he begins to sing in a broken voice. "Carry on my wayward son." He lets out a strangled sob. "There be peace when you are done."
Dean softly sings along with his brother.
Suddenly Billy appears. "Ha Dean Winchester, I always knew that brother of yours would be your undoing."
Dean turns to give Sam, who is still singing, a quick glance. "Get it over with."
"Well, I'd love to listen and let Sam finish the song wouldn't you Dean?'
"Let's go already!" He yelled furiously.
Billy chuckles "I thought I already told you, Winchester, you're too important right now."
Sams body and voice are trembling as he finished the last line "Don't you cry no more."
Suddenly Dean gasped.
