Sunset Shimmer glanced up at the sky.
"Nothin' unusual. I swear this whole thing is a hoax. Could'a just been somethin' all made up," She mumbled as she scribbled stuff down in her notebook. Her client had seemed like a crazy, delusional man anyway. Living in Victory City for a while had made her pick up a city girl accent, which she happened to be very proud of. She wasn't sure what had happened to her friends when they all had split up after high school, but she honestly didn't mind because she had an amazing job now, in a new city. The night sky was twinkling with white stars, glittering in the air. It looked almost as if she could reach out and grab a star.
"Three weeks in and I still got nothin'," Sunset grumbled as she crossed out the area on the map. She smacked her hand to her forehead and brought her hand down to the bridge of her nose. She groaned. She was getting nowhere. Okay. I just gotta retrace my steps, She thought. Her client had seen the water and sky glowing before and after the last portal had opened. Sunset had checked the ocean observatory and the city sewage lines over and over for that and she had visited the abandoned space observatory. Granted she had snuck into all of those places uninvited and having no warrant to do so, she always mused to herself that it wasn't illegal if the cops didn't know about it.
"Okay... if there ain't nothin' here, then I must be lookin' in the wrong places. If only I could wrap my head around this whole thing... first, the space observatory looked run down on the outside and yet it looked completely fine on the inside..." she began to pace back and forth on the dirt road. "Then the ocean observatory was completely unprotected from the inside out, leaving it open for any contamination to be left in the sewage, but there was no contamination in the sewage or seawater..." She grumbled as she tried to keep herself on the right path. She suddenly stopped as it clicked. "What if it wasn't a terrorist attack on the city? What if there was only one victim and this was all a distraction!!" She suddenly yelled all at once as she came to the realization. She began to sprint down the dirt road, kicking up dust and dirt as she rushed. She rushed into the town square, where the lights were blinding and the voices were roaring. The party was about to start.
"Oh no! I'm never gonna get through this crowd!" Sunset groaned. That was until she looked down at her wrist watch. Running to the safety of the trees behind her, she said into the watch the sacred words. "Digi, I need to become someone else!" She cried before her body was engulfed in light. Turning into the Mare Do Well certainly brought feelings of added bravery. Using a powerful jump in her spring boots, she practically flew along the tops of buildings. It wasn't until she spotted a loud helicopter in the sky did she realize the true extent of her dilemma.
"Shit!" She exclaimed as she pulled out her grappling hook and shot it at the flying machine. It hooked onto the bar of the helicopter and pulled Sunset along with it. She screamed as she was pulled off of the roof of the building. In one upwards motion, the superheroine managed to shoot herself up to the deck of the copter. She recoiled in pain as her wrist hit the side of the metal entrance. She pulled her wrist close to her chest but found her watch was sparking and zapping.
"Gaahhh! Digi, detransform!" She ordered. Her costume changed back into her dark jacket and superhero hat turned into her regular top hat. Her watch was completely busted. Moving her way to the front of the helicopter, she sat down in the front seat. She tried to turn the controls, but it refused to budge. She realized the copter was headed straight for her client's house. It was following the very same light she had been trying to find. Sunset nearly wanted to faint at this point. How could I have been so stupid!? She began to mash all the buttons on the dashboard, hoping something would work. It wasn't until she smashed the glass of her watch on the cover did she take an emergency key out of the shattered remains did she jam it into the starter. Everything turned on and began to work. The helicopter began swerving in the sky and Sunset grabbed the controls and narrowly missed her client's house. This is gonna hurt! Everything came crashing to a halt as the copter exploded and Sunset leapt from it just in a nick of time. She hit the ground hard and began to roll down the hill and into the water.
"Sweet," She said in a little moment of victory before completely passing out. The glow of the fire lit up the night.
"Detective Shimmer saves the day again! Mr. Juniper and his property was saved tonight by Detective Shimmer after she stopped digital highjackers from flying a helicopter into his house! More about the criminals who planned the attack..." The newspaper article read. Twilight Sparkle wasn't usually interested in anything about the public, but this made her raise an eyebrow.
