Quick author's note. This is one of my first fanfics so please attempt to be civil because I am new to this and don't want a comment telling me this is terrible. I am absolutely fine with constructive criticism and if you have any ideas you want me to include, tell me and I will try to. Thanks and enjoy.
It had been ten years since the little black haired baby had been found on Grey's Orphanage's doorstep and Juniper Rowan couldn't say she was loving it.
"Juney. Juney!" An impatient voice moaned.
"What?! What is it Ivy?" I snapped back, arm still resting on the cool metal bed frame. She had been going on about something for the last five minutes but I'd lost interest ages ago. It was to cold at the moment and I really wanted to conserve heat.
/All that my 'uniform' consisted of was a shabby short grey dress which had been worn by many more orphans before me and too large boots with the soles flopping off. Anyway, if Ivy continued to make so much noise, Matron would find them and she wasn't
/in the best of moods.
"Juney, I'm cold." Ivy's nagging voice still filled the air. God she was annoying sometimes.
"Aren't we all?" I replied, exasperated. My focus was on the cluster of goosebumps crowding on my skinny white arm.
"Rowan! Moon! What are you doing?" Matron barked behind us. God! She found us. How many times today? "Come down immediately to receive your punishment."
Unhappily, Ivy and I clambered down from the tiny cramped space between two beds and stood before her, heads bowed down.
"Three lashes each. Yes Rowan, Moon?" She growled, her plump face turning red with rage.
"Yes Matron. We understand." We meekly told her, bowed heads hiding our smirks.
She lead us down to the main hall and I saw many of the girls laughing and pointing. As I passed, I heard the whispered remarks. "Look! It's witch girl." Pretty little Gwen said to Anya next to her, coiling her thick fair hair up.
"How many lashes? Maybe her back will go red to match her hair?" Anya giggled back.
"Yeah. Everyone knows witches have green eyes." Gwen laughed. "Green eyes and a silly little Moon shadow." Then they chortled with laughter.
I was stung at that comment to Ivy. I knew they meant her by 'Moon shadow'. They called Ivy that. I ached to yell at them, to punch them, to let things go wild as they usually do around me.
Then, I was jolted to reality to the harsh sting of a lash. I grimaced but took the pain.
That's the first chapter. What do y'all think? Thanks for reading.
