A/N.- Hello. This is a rather short oneshot I wrote right after finishing The Amber Spyglass, I hope you like it.
Disclaimer: Only the plot is mine, the rest is property of Phillip Pullman.
Midsummer Day at midday.
It's been 10 years since they parted ways, and even if they both lived in Oxford, it was impossible for them to see each other. Even if fate had done that to them, they had made a promise before parting ways, and Will Parry had uphold that promise since that day. It was exactly midsummer's day, 11:55 a.m., five minutes before their agreed time, and he was heading for the bench in the Botanic Garden, his cat daemon still close behind. He approached the bench and sat on it, looking at the carved initials beside him he had made the first time he had been there; they read "LS&WP", he stared at them then sighed.
"It's been 10 years Kirjava, and I still remember it as if it was yesterday"
"Face it Will, you'll never forget her…but you won't see her again either" The cat daemon replied.
"I know…I know…" He sighed again "I sometimes wish we wouldn't have been forced to be apart…and some others, I wish we wouldn't have met. I still remember her crying about it and my heart shatters again"
"It was for the great good, and you know it. All those dead people are happy now because of it."
"Kirjava?" The cat turned to face him "Do you think she does come here?"
"Well, she promised she'd go get Roger away from Bolvangar and she did, she promised she'd go and find him in the land of the dead and she did. As much of a liar as she is –or was, who knows-, she knows better than to break her promises."
"That's true. As much as she comes here though, I wish she could be right beside me, in the same world as me…I don't care if it's hers or mine. Do you think she has married someone, or at least fallen in love with someone else?"
Kirjava shrugged, if that's possible for a cat. "I can't tell that, after all, you don't choose who you fall in love with."
"Too true"
"But what is it that you remember the most about her?"
"What I remember? Would've been easier if you asked what I don't remember Kirjava. Anyway, you should know now, after all, you are me."
"Tell me anyway" Kirjava did this in order for Will to constantly remember Lyra. This wasn't really necessary though, since Will thought about his beloved Lyra every day, especially on those days she visited Dr. Malone.
I remember everything about her, but what I remember the most is her little bag with the alethiometer hanging from her shoulder, the way she tucked her hair behind her ear when she read it, Pan curled around her neck in his ermine shape -even if he's now a marten-, and especially, the taste on her lips when we kissed for the first time."
"It's amazing isn't it? How we can keep the teensiest details in our mind, but we often forget the general picture"
"Yes, but you usually remember them because they are linked to something very special. Like the taste of her lips; I remember that because it was the very first time I kissed a girl. Do you think she remembers it?"
"I can't say, but it would be nice if she did"
Will didn't answer, he just lost himself in his memories, reminiscing all those moments, since the day he met Lyra until they parted ways and promised to be in that very place every year, in Midsummer Day at midday.
A/N.- Thanks for reading it. Please review to tell me what you think.
