"Oh, Mercy," Lex started, shaking his head. "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy."

"Yes, Sir?" The raven-haired assistant inquired at the mentioning of her name, looking up from her tablet device full of schedules, notes, and appointments.

"Just the girl I wanted to see." Lex smirked, snaking an arm around her waist and ushering her off into a vacant hallway.

"Mercy, my little desert flower," he mused seemingly to himself, pulling her ever closer to him. "My wilting daisy, my little thorned rose, you."

Although she was a bit nervous about the contact, it was nothing new. Luthor was always very 'touchy-feely' when it came to his lovely assistant. From tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear, to brushing her cheek with his thumb, or even trailing his fingers down the small of her back whenever he felt like it, there seemed to be no boundaries, almost, when it came to her.

Surprisingly, she never could find it in herself to mind. Because in all honesty, she had grown fairly fond of his odd personality and quirks, since she'd been working for him for a while.

"Sir," she started once they'd reached a secluded area of the courthouse. "Do you require something of me? Because all you have to do is ask. That's what I'm here for,"

Luthor smiled at her bluntness, putting his hands on his hips in amusement.

"Do I require something?" he echoed. "No. But you will be providing me with something later on." he smirked lopsidedly. "You're one very important piece that's going to set my plan in motion..." he closed his eyes for a moment and inched closer to her.

"Mercy," he mumbled, seemingly to himself, leaning into her neck to get a scent of her lavender perfume. "Such a beautiful name..."

"Thank you, Mr. Luthor." She flushed, placing a hand in front of herself to put some distance between them. "You're too kind."

"Mr. Luthor?" He cringed. "Ouch, I thought we were closer than that. Please, call me Lex, it suits me better." he tilted his head at her. "It's a shame for you though..."

"How so?" she asked curiously.

"Your name is the one thing in this world I can't give you." he said quietly, tucking a stray strand of hair back into her ponytail.

She shook her head.

"I don't understand."

"Mercy, you've always been more to me than just a feather in my cap, or a jewel in my crown. You know that, right?"

"Well..." she began carefully, uncertain of where the conversation was heading.

He abruptly pulled himself away from her and clapped his hands together, causing her to jerk a little in surprise.

"Because as of today," he informed her. "your employment to me has been terminated. So I won't be seeing much of you anymore after this trial."

Her eyes widened in confusion.

"Why, did I do something wrong?"

"Oh no, my dear," he assured her. "You can do me no wrong. And that is exactly why I need you gone." he lowered his voice to a whisper. "You will be the one thing that pushes me over the edge...and you will most certainly be missed."

"Then why fire me?" she inquired, clutching her tablet device to her chest.

"See, that's the thing," he said, wagging a finger. "if you ever find something you like, you have to get rid of it. Because if you don't, it will make you vulnerable. And you know I can't tolerate that."

"I'll have to retrieve a few of my things from your office..." she said carefully. "If my employment is being terminated..."

"That's already been taken care of,"

"Oh? But will you be lonely without me, Sir?" She inquired, raising one of her perfect brows.

He shrugged half-heartedly.

"I'll make do."

"Say," Lex said, ushering her back towards the crowd of people filing into vacant seats of the courthouse. "Why don't you save me a seat? I'll be there in a minute."

"O-okay," she replied, blinking in confusion as she reluctantly entered the courtroom.

She never would understand Lex Luthor.
