For StoryGirl02
Seamus won't look at you. Seamus won't touch you. Seamus looks right through you, and it hurts because he said he loved you and he said he didn't care about the scars, but you guess that he changed his mind after the wedding night.
You spend your honeymoon mostly alone, by yourself, on the beach at night and you hug your knees to your chest and you wonder how you could have been so naïve because no boy, not even Seamus wants damaged goods for a wife. Any boy would be repulsed by the red, cursed scar tissue everywhere. You'd given up hope, but Seamus said it would be okay, because he loved you for you and not for your pretty blue eyes or your perfect skin.
You develop a fondness for mango smoothies, because he drinks them with you and sometimes he even laughs and you can pretend that maybe this marriage will work out, and maybe he'll get used to the scars and he'll love you again.
It doesn't seem likely.
You confront him, because you can't stand his silence anymore. You know that you are screaming and hysterical and irrational, but you love him, damn it, and he made you love him so if he's going to change his mind you have a right to know why.
"I'm hideous aren't I?" you scream, when you find him alone on the beach, staring at the half moon with his mouth slightly agape, "That's why you won't touch me!"
He looks pained, "Lavender…"
"Just say it!" you push him, embarrassed by the tears in your eyes and the trembling of your hands, "You're disappointed, you think you've made the biggest mistake of your life."
"That's not true!" he protests, grabbing your chin and forcing you to look him in the eyes, "that's not true," he repeats softly.
You can't stand it.
"You know," you whisper now, because the fight has been beaten out of you and you just want to crawl under the covers of your lonely marriage bed, "I was more than ready to be an old, miserable spinster, if you want to get an annulment it's better than this."
You wrench away from him. You don't expect him to chase after you, but he does. He spins you around, kisses you long and hard and wordlessly takes you by the hand and leads you back to your room.
You don't know what he was thinking or why he had ignored you for the first few weeks of your marriage, but he never neglects you again.
