The Earth Rumble Tournament was secretive; an underground, shameful pleasure for the people of Gaoling. It claimed to feature the most powerful earthbenders in the world.

Which is why the Avatar and his friends were at the tournament.

Katara watched the many battles boredly, finding no pleasure in the show. It was all just over-muscled men chucking rocks at each other and referring to themselves in the third person. There wasn't even any sort of graceful or awe-inspiring techniques.

But then the earthbending champion was brought out.

She looked too small to be fighting the tournament's many powerhouses, hardly taller than her current opponent's waist. Despite this, she was completely confident, having a witty retort for everything that came out of The Boulder's mouth.

And when she fought, she was different from everyone else. Her technique was simple and to-the-point, with no exaggeration to her movements. She wasn't trying to show-off her muscle or prove herself the strongest, and yet she won her battle almost effortlessly.

For the first time since the tournament began, Katara was impressed.

Author's Notes: So, this is my interpretation of Katara's first impression of Toph. Short, I know, but I hope you guys still enjoy it.

Disclaimer: I do not own 'Avatar' or any of its characters.
