Chapter 1: The Rift
Unknown Regions, 2ABY
"Activate the bioscanner for a sweep of the asteroid field." A commanding voice fills the bridge as Admiral Watts orders the crew aboard to start a bio scan of the surrounding asteroid field for hidden Rebel activity. Several TIE Fighters are dispatched to do routine scout mission. One of the 12 TIES was TIE Pilot Otis Victor. He was a model pilot in his ranks with over 50 confirmed kills. Otis lead a squadron through a maze of asteroids and space junk. "No sign of any Rebel activity!" Otis radioed.
"Blast! My coordinates can't be that fallacious can it?" Admiral Watts replied. "Continue your routine search and report of any news, commander." "Roger that!" replied Otis. The vast void of space was a sight that gave Otis rest in his head from the stress of his duties. Mysterious or not, Otis craved for what is out there at the edge of the known galaxy. Even with this, Otis was always set on the task at hand whenever duty calls. As Otis orders his squadron to break up and search the perimeter, he veered a bit off course into more dense asteroids field. He glanced over toward his instruments to see a faint signal 160 clicks north. Otis was a little baffled by the signal. He couldn't spot any Imperial or Rebel or any vessel in his view where the signal was picking it up. "Must be a malfunction" he thought to himself. He brought his TIE to a halt to about 70 clicks from the signal. He then radioed to the "Despite", "This is commander Victor, I'm picking up a faint signal 70 clicks north of my current location. No sign of a vessel or any physical object in my sight." The, "Despite" replies with, "Copy that commander Victor. This is TK-2234, we will investigate the situation as soon as possible, over?" The bridge officer gets no response. "Commander Victor, reply." Still silence. "What's going on down there?" Admiral Watts asked. "We're trying to retrieve the signal from commander Victor, but we're not able to..." TK-2234 stopped himself after feeling a sudden jolt in the bridge as everyone is thrown off balance by a mysterious rumble followed by a bright flash followed by darkness and no more rumbling. Watts regain balance along with everyone in the bridge. As Watts tries to process the situation on was transpired so far, the bridge of the ship gives off a eerie silence that can be felt by everyone. "What in the blazing hell was that!?!" One bridge officer yelled. "Quiet!" Watts yelled in response. One stormtrooper pointed to a group of asteroids to see light particles floating in the vacuum of space. Everyone was in shock. Watts radios Victors squadron to regroup and return to the ship. One of the young pilots ask about their squadron leader Victor. "I'm afraid he was lost in the incident. Now re...return to the Despite. That's a...an order." Watts replies. The shakiness in her voice sent chills throughout the entire cabin. "What are y'all waste of space staring at?! Back to your stations now!" Watts screamed in anger. The crew did so without question. Watts turns to stand in front of one of the windows. "Be Safe." Watts thinks to herself.
