Chapter 1

It was a normal evening drive for the Zahhak couple. It was only a month ago that Nepeta Leijon and Equius Zahhak had married. Nepeta was a small girl, in height and weight. She had short brown hair and light tanned skin. Equius was tall and muscular. He had long black hair that Nepeta had convinced him to keep up in a ponytail. Ever since their marriage they would go for a drive on Sunday evenings.

"What do you want for lunch?" Nepeta asked her husband who was driving.

"How about breakfast?" Equius answered. His favorite lunch on a warm summer's day was breakfast.

"Biscuits or pancakes?" Nepeta inquired.

"Biscuits."

That's when it happened. As they were making a rough turn a semi began driving towards them on the wrong side of the road. Equius swerved and the car flipped and began rolling in a corn field.

When Equius opened his eyes all he could see was red. A cut had formed on his forehead and blood was covering one of his eyes.

"N-Nepeta?" he asked, spitting a bit of blood from his mouth. He had apparently bitten the side of his tongue.

He received no answer.

"N-Nepeta!?" he sputtered more frantically.

Still no answer.

He turned his head quickly to wear she should be dangling upside down like him. She wasn't there. He began fighting against his seatbelt.

"NEPETA!?" he yelled with pure terror.

He heard a small groan reply to him. He finally got out of his seatbelt, catching himself before hitting his head on the roof of the car. He climbed out of the now broken car window.

He stood up, blood rushing from his head too fast. He fell to his knees. When he got his head straight he looked up. He could see Nepeta's crumpled and tangled up body only a short distance away, surrounded by a pool of blood.

He no longer felt the pain in his head or the rest of his body. All he could feel was his heart stopping as he saw the blood covering the smashed down corn around Nepeta. He slowly crawled over to her on his knees.

Her eyes were shut. She had a gash, just like Equius, just above her right eye. He scanned her over. Her right shin had been broken in two and the bone was sticking out. The amount of blood covering her arm made it impossible for Equius to see where her injury was. Her soft, brown hair was clumped and sticky with her blood.

Equius could hear footsteps. He turned to see an older man in jean overalls and a white shirt looking both Equius and Nepeta over.

"Is she...?" was all the older man could say before covering his mouth, keeping himself from vomiting at the sight and smell of all the blood.

Equius leaned his head to Nepeta's chest. He heard a faint and fragile heart beat. Equius could feel a cold tear roll down his cheek and mix in with his warm blood that was covering his face. He wasn't sure if he was happy she was alive or terrified of how much pain she had to be experiencing. Equius nodded and quietly said, "She's alive."

The old man pulled a cell phone from his pocket and began giving information about the situation.

Equius felt a hand grabbing onto his wrist. He looked down to see Nepeta trying to move. She winced and stopped. She barely opened one of her eyes and looked up to Equius. Equius held her hand gently.

"E-everything will be a-alright," he tried to console her. She smiled and closed her eye again. She gently squeezed Equius's hand before falling out of consciousness.
