This fanfiction will tell the events leading up to them having an affair while also telling you about their past through flashbacks. Told through the perspective of Toad. (In this fanfiction, Toad and Toadette are sixteen years old and look exactly the same as they do on the cover image, minus the mushrooms.)
I was laying on my back, fast asleep. The grass beneath me was fresh and comfortable. The tree that loomed above me provided just enough shade to keep me cool. And the nice breeze made the flowers sway too and fro. Suddenly, I was awoken by a sweet voice.
"Toad~" The voice sung. I slowly opened my eyes, squinting due to the sunlight. A few seconds later, after my eyes had adjusted, I saw Toadette, standing above me. "Your finally up, sleepy head."
"Oh, hey, Toadette." I smiled, sitting up and gesturing for her to sit next to me. She returned my smile and took a seat beside me, admiring the flowers.
"Pretty, right?" Toadette asked me. I nodded and stroked her braids.
"Not as pretty as you." I said. Toadette blushed slightly and giggled, plopping her head on my shoulder.
"We used to play here all the time as kids, remember?" Toadette asked me, cuddling up to my chest.
"Yeah." I replied, letting out a chuckle.

8 Years Ago:
"Tag, your it!" I shouted, tapping Toadette on the shoulder and running away.
"No fair, Toad!" Toadette whined, trying to catch up to me, which she couldn't. Then, Toadette grinned, an idea popping into her head. She "tripped" and fell to the ground, sobbing. I whipped around, ran back over to Toadette, and knelt beside her.
"You okay, Toadette?" I asked. Toadette looked up at me, grinning.
"Got you, Toad!" She laughed, tackling me. We rolled down the hill and landed in the river at the bottom, which was thankfully only a few inches deep. We stared each other for a few seconds before laughing.
I planted a kiss on Toadette's forehead. She let out a squeak of surprise, then frowned.
"No fair, Toad!" Toadette whined, giving me a peck on my cheek. I blushed slightly before laughing.
"Oh, you!" I smiled. I cupped my hands around Toadette's face, staring deep into her eyes. She nodded and closed her eyes, leaning forward. I did the same and our lips met. Toadette wrapped her arms around my neck while I wrapped my arms around her back. After a few seconds, Toadette broke the kiss, grinned, and pinned me to the ground.
"I love you, Toad." She whispered in my ear, climbing on top of me and grasping my shoulders.
"I love you too, Toadette." I said, wrapping my arms around her back. Then, we locked lips. We kissed, only breaking apart for a split second here and there to take a quick breath, for a minute or so before I pressed my tongue against Toadette's lips, asking for entry. She gladly accepted and opened her mouth, allowing me to slide my tongue in. A small moan escaped from Toadette as she tightened her grip on my shoulders, enjoying the sensation. My tongue explored every last inch of her mouth, our saliva mixing. After another minute had gone by, I broke the kiss and exhaled deeply, finally finding the courage to ask Toadette the question that had plagued my mind for the past few weeks.
