"And we know it's never simple, never easy,

Never a clean break, no one here to save me,

You're the only thing I know like the back of my hand."

-Taylor Swift, "Breathe"

Yeah, she cried over him. Over it. Over the entire endeavor she had pushed herself through.

She had cried when Lizzie held her that night, after he had shown his true colors and left her life for good. She had cried when she woke up without him, when Jane had come home to help her recover, when she had watched that video of Gigi and learned what he had done to her. She even cried when she actually met Gigi, because she was the one person who understood.

It was hard to see him as that awful sleaze-bag in Lizzie's once-upon-a-time from Darcy's letter. As the heartbreaker and career-ender in Gigi's story. She could only ever see him as the guy she had dated, the sweet boyfriend who sat through movie marathons with her and told her that he loved her. She saw him as a fairy tale ending, not a cold, hard reality.

Now that she knows everything, all the facts of their so-called "relationship," she doesn't even understand why it was her in the first place. To get back at Lizzie? At Darcy? Hadn't he already gotten his revenge on Darcy with the whole Gigi incident? And what had Lizzie ever done to him?

Nothing. Nothing made sense anymore. Because when everything had made sense before, it had been with George. It had been when he had put his arm around her shoulder and whispered in her ear while they watched America's Next Top Model or American Idol because he had wanted her "to be happy."

She never realized he only said this after he had told her not to talk to Lizzie or Jane.

Sure, she had seen abusive relationships before. Her health class had had an entire day just for how to see the signs of one. But she had only thought it could be physically abusive. She never thought someone could get in her head and change it from the inside out, little by little, for his advantage.

He was just supposed to be the guy she made out with at midnight on New Years.

It was never supposed to get this far.

And yet, here she was. Broken, alone, an absolute mess and it was all because of him. Of his handsome face and charming personality.

How could it have gotten this far?
