Win Her Back: Owen's Story

Once in the land of Tortall there lived a boy and his mother and father. The boy's name was Owen. His father was a knight that had died in combat when Owen was two. When Owen turned eight he had his mind made up, he wanted to be a knight like his father. He tried to teach himself a bit with a staff but was never any good. One awful night (no pun intended) Owen's village was attacked by bandits. They set fire to the courthouse and all the stables. Since Owen's house was in the middle of the village they had little time to prepare. The bandits attacked and killed his mother. He knelt weeping over her body and mumbled, " Don't worry mom I'll avenge you, I'll win you back" And with a final prayer he offered her to the goddess.
