Disclaimer: I don't own Fire Emblem

Inigo looked her in the eye. "You have to choose, Lucina. One or the other."

She looked desperately back at him, her mind torn. She remembered playing with Inigo when they were kids. She remembered how he would always annoy her by flirting other girls. She remembered how she felt kind of disappointed that he didn't flirt with her. She had always thought she would spend the rest of her life with him. She had always wished they could be together when the future was saved.

That was always what she had thought. That was always what she thought she had wanted.

But now, there was someone else. The mysterious man with white hair and a Plegian coat. The man who had killed her father. She had never thought he would sweep her off her feet. But there she was, torn between decisions. The man she had known since they were little, or the mysterious man who was dangerous for her?

She sighed as she came to the truth. Those eyes decided it for her. They were her birdcage. "Inigo, I'm sorry, but…"

He nodded in understanding. "It's all right. I understand." He leaned in closer. "But you just picked the path that's most painful for you. This way, you'll suffer more pain than you could ever imagine."

Lucina forced herself to show no doubt. "I chose knowing full well that by choosing Robin, I've sealed my own fate."

He smiled at her and kissed her hand. "Well, I guess this is it. You're with him now. He better take good care of you."

She looked at him as he walked away. Oh, how easy it would have been to just take Inigo's hand and walk the easy path. But I just can't. Those eyes…are my birdcage.

She headed back to the tent Robin was in, prepared to tell him her choice.

Lucina sighed as she felt the tears run down her face. "I guess this is my punishment for choosing the hard path," she murmured.

Robin was gone. Disappearing after he had slayed Grima, Lucina had realized what would happen. He would be gone, out of her life. And she would be alone.

She caught Inigo's gaze. "You should have just chosen the easy path," he murmured as he walked past.

Lucina grit her teeth. I know what I chose. And now, she was paying the price. Her punishment for letting herself be trapped. Trapped in that birdcage. Imprisoned, like the fluttering bird she was. She could do nothing to escape and save herself the pain. This punishment…was her only salvation. As she fell farther and farther into the darkness, it was only her memories she could rely on. The memories of those steely grey eyes, that silvery hair, that mysterious coat. All she could hang onto were those blessed memories. It was all she could do to remain trapped in the birdcage. She wanted to be trapped. She wanted to be punished. And most of all, she wanted to see those eyes once more. Those eyes that had imprisoned her. It was her punishment. And she loved it.

I know this was really short, but I just felt like writing this on a whim. This is my first Robin/Lucina fic that isn't a request. I just felt like writing a little drabble like this because I'm bored and REALLY SICK. I've had to miss school because it got that bad. I'm always getting sick… Anyway, shout out to pokemonrhoades for figuring out my account pic. Hope you enjoyed~
