AN: inspired by Baby Blue by Dave Matthews Band.
I don't own Glee, sadly.
They spent that last month with lazy kisses in the dead heat, lying side by side with hands clasped tight. They had made grand plans to travel, to visit people and places but they simply could not bring themselves to do so. Instead August was gentle touches and starlit nights. There was not much conversation; no need. Words meant remembering the future. It meant remembering that soon there would be no more "them."
The last night was soft sighs and a few tears. By morning they had dried, and soon Blaine was grabbing his keys and climbing into his car and starting the engine and all too soon, he was gone. Kurt stood in the driveway for what seemed like hours before walking inside and collapsing onto the couch.
He was still on the couch when the phone rang. Blaine. He was turning around, coming back. He had been halfway home, 30 minutes away, and he was turning back. Kurt stayed on the couch, uncomprehending.
And then he was back; Blaine was standing at his front door. It was open and he walked in, and it was I couldn't do it, I couldn't drive away knowing it was done, and he was crying, and so was Kurt, and I know, I know, I couldn't either, and it's going to be so hard, and I know, but it 's worth it. You're worth it.
He kissed Blaine, kissed him hard. It was messy and desperate and full of love, more love than could be put into words. And Blaine's hands were on Kurt's waist, his shoulders, his face, his hair. There were gasps and sighs and heat that had nothing to do with August weather. There was I love you, and I know, and I love you too, and I know.
And after Blaine gathered up his shirt and his shoes and his keys (again), they were back on the driveway. There was a soft kiss, words murmured as foreheads pressed together, fingers intertwined. They had said goodbye before, and they would say it many times again, but all that mattered was that this was not the last.
Then Blaine was in his car, and Kurt was waving. There was a tear or two, but also a smile as Blaine slowly pulled away. They were still a "they."
