Worlds Apart, Hearts United
Victor walked through the silent halls of Altena castle. The moon shone down at him, yet the man was in no mood for beauty. Other than one.
He entered the garden and sat down on the soft grass with a heavy sigh. Everything reminded him of her. Everything. Yet he could do nothing for her. She was half a globe away, fighting. He was stuck there, unable to even help her mother get better from the curse placed upon her.
'Where are you now, Princess? What are you doing?'
He sighed heavily. Closing his eyes, he saw her, as real as life. Her lavender locks. Her smile. Her emerald eyes. Her perfect figure…
He smiled when he realized he stepped over the line just a bit. But with what she wore, he couldn't really blame himself.
'She truly is beautiful…'
He smiled again as he remembered the last time he saw her, in comparison to before she left. She was just a young princess then. Her smile held the world for him. It held such innocence, such laughter… and such sadness. As though she was a child again, and the only toy she wanted was the one she couldn't have, but looking at it made it better.
Then she came back. How he envied her companions. They, who got to spend time with her. They, who got to know her better.
They, who she called her friends.
Clenching his fists around the damp grass, he felt like crying. A man, at his age? Cry? Yet he gave that no concern. He loved her. Yes, he, a mere servant, loved the princess. He knew it was an impossible love, yet the same way she had looked at the toy without being able to receive it, he had watched her, unable to gather the gold needed to buy it.
"Thinking of her again, are we?"
He wasn't surprised to meet his old mentor there. It turned into a sort of nightly ritual. Victor'd go there to sulk… and Jose, to try and keep the man's feet on the ground.
"Who else?"
They both looked up at the starts in silence.
"Where do you think they are now?"
It took a while for the older man to answer. He was old, and as such, learnt the value of thought behind the word.
"Who knows. They could be anywhere in the world now. Flammie truly is a remarkable beast."
Victor nodded, and returned his gaze to the starts. Worry ate at him. He knew his love needed him now, more than ever. But he was stuck there, miles and miles away, unable to do a thing.
"Do you think she thinks of us, Jose?"
The old man smiled knowingly.
"Oh yes, Victor. She does. Who knows. Maybe she's even looking at the stars now, thinking of us. Thinking whether we're thinking of her. Looking at the moon."
The young man smiled slightly.
"You think so?"
"I don't think. Love knows."
Victor blushed lightly as he turned to look at the stars again.
'Look above, my love. Please.'
"Huh?"
Purple locks flew backwards as the princess tilted her head lightly to look above. Her two companions blinked in confusion.
"Are you all right, Angela?"
Spotting the moon, Angela smiled warmly.
"Yes. I am."
And back in Altena, Victor smiled again, finally able to buy the toy for his beloved friend.
A/N: there. ^^
