Once again, Elijah Goldsworthy felt tired in Ms. Dawes' 3rd period English class. His hand was positioned against his cheek, his head drooping. His elbow was sliding, making its way to the edge of the desk.
His head dropped from his hand, his face hitting his open notebook. His eyes opened when he felt something poking at his cheek. It ended up being his pen, which was still opened from taking notes. He lifted his head up, grabbed his pen, and went back to taking notes. He was sure that he missed a good portion of notes, but he could just get them from Clare.
There were 20 minutes left in the class period, and he was falling asleep again. This time, he moved his pen to the side so he could sleep without being woken up until the bell rang. He and Clare had lunch next period, and he could sleep in there.
But his hopes were diminished when Clare poked him with her pen."Eli, wake up!" She whispered.
"Mhh." He sighed, burying his head deeper into his folded arms.
Ms. Dawes left the room to go get some copies, so Clare shook Eli. "Eli! Wake up, now!"
"No..." He sighed. After a few more attempts to get him to wake up, Clare sighed, and turned back to her notes. When the bell rang, Eli groaned at the realization that he needed to get up. He closed his English notebook, stuffed it into his backpack, and walked to the cafeteria with Clare.
The first thing he did was sleep. He didn't even bother eating, because he would have just fallen asleep in his food anyway. But he could get a good hour of sleep before math, where he would attempt to sleep anyway, although his teacher would be pissed...
Back in the English department, Ms. Dawes was grading some papers from her classes. The thought on her mind was why is Eli losing interest in class? Of course it wasn't his favorite thing; school, I mean, but English had always been one of his favorite classes. Maybe something was wrong at home... Maybe he was just going through a tough moment. But either way, she would try to figure out what it was. He was, after all, one of her favorite students, and she didn't want to see him like this.
