Thanks to Les (too bad you're not logged in) for revealing an embarassing typo. It's been corrected. Next time I'll re-read my two year old stories.
These are three flashfics I wrote to go together. It's happening in the same time line as almost every other story I wrote (and will publish in due time), so if you see references, it's okay, it's made this way. If you'd left some note at the end, I'd be honored. Enjoy.
A young Ensign approached the Marine, well aware of her reputation. She worked always alone and wasn't to be disturb in the middle of a case, except by higher-ranking officers or her CO's yeoman. There weren't a lot of higher ranking officers in that small JAG office. Thirty people were working in Yuma, Arizona.
She heard a knock on the door that shocked her out of her murder case. Her first. It was one of the reasons she didn't liked her CO. She was always doing paperwork. The few good cases the office received in a year ware automatically assigned to male officers. Captain Krennick was known for it. And glued to her reputation.
"Enter"
The young Ensign stepped in, coming at attention.
"Ensign, may I ask why you came here this afternoon? I though I made myself clear. What is it?" she asked, definitely unhappy with the disturbance.
"An urgent letter from JAG Headquarters, ma'am."

"At ease."
'Urgent' she thought. What could be urgent on New Year's Eve? Except maybe beginning a new year. But this was the military. Today was like any other day of the ear. Just the one that happened to be the last of 1996.
"Care to continue, Ensign? You know what this is all about. It's your job. So?"
"You are going to be transferred, ma'am. And put on a team."
'Transfer. Team. Partner.'
'Leaving here. Arizona. Warm. Sun. Ichnites. D.C. Cold. Winter. Snow.'
"Team? As in 'not alone anymore'?"
"I don't know the details, ma'am." He handed her the official letter, a big letter red URGENT stamp on it.
"Thank you, Ensign. Dismissed."
"Aye, ma'am." He left her office, relieved to be in one piece.
She really didn't like it. Not that she actually had the choice in that matter. She sat at her desk and opened the letter with apprehension.

At the bottom, a note, in handwriting.
If your reputation is true, Major, I look forward to have you at Headquarters. Admiral Chegwidden
It was a weird sensation, but it felt right, somehow. She loved it here, and hoped she'll love it there too. With a smile on her face, she started packing.
