Old Friends
Summary: She awaits him in the Elysian Fields.
He takes a deep breath. This is it. Standing in a field, he waits for something to take him home. He turns at the sound a horse neighing. There is a beautiful chestnut filly in the paddock. He watches with delight as she canters towards him and nuzzles his right pocket, where he finds lumps of sugar for her to nibble on.
"Sophie, old girl, I haven't seen you in years."
She chortles under his gentle caress.
"Sherman!"
The home fire beacons.
"Coming Mildred!"
It makes him smile that he will get to spend an eternity with the two great loves of his life.
He mounts her like the skilled equestrian that he is.
With a simple "Giddy up!", she carries him home to his wife.
Author's Note: In honour of his passing, I thought to write a tribute to one of the roles made famous by Harry Morgan. R.I.P.
