AN: I came up with the 'promise' rant waiting for the bus on Friday. Weird huh? I wrote the rest in about fifteen minutes on the way down to Casino on Saturday.

SUMMARY - There were the promises you made and kept. There were the ones you broke. Then there were the ones you wish you could keep, but know as soon as you've made them, that they will be broken, no matter how much you wish they wouldn't be.

He wrote a song for her. When they were apart, when he was thinking of her, (when hadn't he been?) He'd sat down and written his promise (I'll come back to you someday.)

One night he'd gotten a phone call, "I'm at the airport. I'm coming to see you."

And when he hung up, hands shaking, he had thought that maybe, just maybe his dreams were coming true and the promise he had made was going to be one of those ones he got to keep.

Peyton was with him. And Jenny.

Their little family was reunited and with the three of them back together in one place, Jake picked up his guitar and sang his vow to the woman he loved.

He should have been expecting it.

They'd never had it easy before, why should things change now? (He needed it so bad!)

Three days of happiness and just a little planning for a future they could never have and he heard those three words he had always wanted to hear from her, with the wrong name on the end. (I love you, Lucas)

Lucas was the one for her. no matter how much either of them wished it were another way, Lucas was it.

Jake had made his promise, but as it turned out, Promises were made to be broken; there were the promises you made and kept. There were the ones you broke. Then there were the ones you wish you could keep, but know as soon as you've made them, that they will be broken, no matter how much you wish they wouldn't be.

He had wanted (so, so) bad to for this to be one of the ones he could keep for all time.

But things never went his way, that much was clear, after looking at the last two year's events.

Running the first time may have been cowardly, (the second was definatly a necesaty.) but he could still dream.

FIN

Wow that's short. Well I guess that's what I get for writing in little notebooks, it makes it seem like it's so much longer.
