It had been an unspoken agreement that when Renji spent the night in his captain's bed he would be gone before dawn. The redhead didn't quite agree with it but even he could see that it was necessary to avoid being discovered. And the last thing Renji wanted was for all of Soul Society to know, he could only imagine how many comments of how many ways he was 'under his captain' before he would have to use Zabimaru on someone. Despite his worries though, he had somehow managed to mess it all up. He was only going to rest his eyes for a moment before leaving for the night when next thing he knew he woke up to hear birds singing and see the early morning light creeping across the bedroom floor.
Renji lets out a curse then quickly glances over to check if Byakuya is still asleep. Much to his relief the older man is still peacefully slumbering, oblivious to the fact his guest has over stayed his welcome.
Renji's breath hitches for a moment as he looks at his captain as the sunlight creeps over the older man's form. The sun's rays bask him in an ethereal glow and seem to paint color and life on Byakuya's pale skin. His raven black hair shines, reflecting the light, creating an almost halo effect around the man's head. Byakuya's face is set in a rare expression of calm, that Renji can't ever remember seeing on the man's face in his waking hours. But in Renji's eyes it suits him well and he comes to wonder what Byakuya sees in him, when the noble could so easily have anyone he chooses within the Soul Society.
"No way a guy should be this beautiful," Renji whispers to himself, too caught up an admiring his lover's face to notice a slender hand reach out towards him. The redhead starts when he feels the fingers wrap around his wrist and quickly stammers, "I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to fall asleep. But it's still early so I can probably still leave without anyone noticing. So I'll be going now."
Byakuya just tightens his grip and sleepily murmurs, "Stay. Just stay."
"C-captain Kuchiki," Renji stumbles out, but says no more as he notices pale blue eyes on him.
"Byakuya will be fine, Renji," the older man says softly, "Now stop acting foolish and get back into bed."
"But people will-"
"Be asleep. After the celebration last night they're all most likely still soundly sleeping or nursing painful hangovers. Now hush, and sleep."
Renji sighs then rest his head against his captain's. "I guess I could stay for a little longer. Just make sure I don't fall asleep for long again ok?"
"Of course," Byakuya murmurs, smiling gently as he watches the tattooed man quickly lose the battle against sleep. A promise forgotten when he follows the younger man into slumber as the sun finishes rising.
