Just a short little piece that was floating around in my head.

Time flies around them. Things are changing, fall turns to winter, winter to spring. They are changing too, but they refuse to see it.

It's been months now since the name Josh has been muttered around the precinct. It's a matter Kate is not fond of recalling, involving the good doctor finally reading a certain bestselling novel by a certain mystery novelist.

He's in love with you Kate.

There is an invisible line drawn, but It keeps receding. They find themselves spending more time together then they'd like to admit but at the end of the day, no one understands better. Many a evening are spent at the Old Haunt and various other restaurants around the precinct.

Their relationship has always been fluid, so when the dams slowly start to break, the swirling waters pull them in.

One chilly night after dinner at Remy's Rick playfully wraps his scarf around her neck and snakes his arm around her back as they stand waiting for a cab. She breaths out a sigh of contentment so he decides to draw her close against the cool spring breeze.

When he walks her up to her apartment, she unlocks her door and turns back to face him. She leans in and their lips meet. She finally breaks away smiling, and coyly retreats to the confines of her apartment.

He stands there for quite some time.

In fact he stands there for so long, mind still racing, that when Kate calls to him tell him she still had his scarf and that'd she'd bring it back tomorrow she hears his ringtone on the other side of her door.

She opens it up and he's turning red as she cocks an eyebrow.

He shrugs his shoulders and is relieved to see that's she's smiling as she opens her mouth to speak,"God, I love you. But you know that don't you?"

"I was hoping." He closed the space in between them and took a hand to tilt her chin to him, "Because I'll always love you."

Hope you enjoyed :)
