She looked so beautiful standing there on the Balcony watching the moonrise. Her singing had drawn him to the little used balcony on the South Pier; he was on his usual night shift patrol when he'd heard her. The song was a sad one, of lost love and bitter regret, he'd stayed in the shadows and slipped away quietly when she'd finished, as he was sure she knew someone was there.
The next time he passed the Balcony she was there again staring out to sea and watching the moon rise, he asked her if she was ok as she'd had a tough time lately, she'd nodded and smiled but it never quite reached her eyes, he'd asked her if she wanted to talk about it. He'd seen the indecision cross her face and told her that she didn't have to if she didn't want to. She'd reached out a hand and asked him to stay a while so he stayed and listened to her.
As time passed, the Balcony had become a regular meeting place for them when he was on the night shift, he'd always bring her some tea and coffee for himself. Sometimes she would sing for him, sometimes he would tell her of his family and his home, sometimes they just watched the moonrise without saying anything.
One day he was there before her, she'd wondered if he would be there at all as two members of his team had been killed in an ambush, she'd worried for him when she'd heard news of the attack and breathed a deep sigh of relief when he'd come through the gate unharmed. She hadn't said anything, just wrapped her arms around him and held him close willing the pain away.
Their first kiss had been on the Balcony, he'd been telling her a story about his brother's child and the mischief he'd gotten into, as they'd finished laughing she'd gently brushed her lips against his, he'd been a little surprised but had responded to her with a passion that delighted her.
He had asked her to marry him on their Balcony; he'd said it was only place worthy. Their marriage had taken place on the Mainland but they had spent many hours on the Balcony watching the moonrise as their children and then their grandchildren had in later years.
When death came for them their ashes had been scattered from the Balcony, their family had thought it the proper thing to do as the Balcony had played a big part in all of their lives.
Somewhere on another plane of existence, they met, on a Balcony, and watched over Atlantis.
