A/N: this is the first time I have ever written fanfiction, so please review! This was Beta'd by GUITARCHIQ aka my best friend who will be (hopefully) be posting more fanfiction soon!

Disclaimer: I don't own the characters of this story, the only thing that is mine is the plot of this story

Fitz was afraid—afraid and nervous. He was afraid of so many things that he couldn't find the time count them all. What if I fail my classes? What if my classes are too hard and I have trouble? What if they have no sandwiches in the cafeteria? What if I hate my roommate? What if I hate my professors…Fitz said to himself has he stood in the bare, white, dorm room. He expected it to offer itself to him like a blank canvas, but instead he could feel the dorm rejecting his presence already. He walked over to the small bottom bunk, the wooden floorboards creaking under his feet. He sighed audibly as he threw his large travel bag onto the white mattress. He plopped himself down on the bed next to his bag. The bed made a strange creaking sound under his weight.

"What is wrong with this darn bed?!" he said to himself sleepily as he moved his hands under his curls to compensate for the lack of pillow. He felt his eyes closing for the first time in many days, and he was asleep before anyone could say potassium.

Leo's eyes flew open as the door opened with a loud creek. He sat up too quickly to find the source of the noise, hitting his head on the top bunk.

"Arggghh!" the scientist cried out in pain, clutching his head as he stood up properly. He glanced up, laying his eyes on a small girl with wavy brown hair carrying a large suitcase too big for her body. She looked as if she was petrified, standing as rigid as a board as Fitz looked her up and down. After 30 extremely awkward seconds of Fitz looking at the strange stature of the girl, she managed to move her mouth.

"Oh my god, I am so sorry, I had no idea you were here already, were you sleeping because I didn't meant to wake you and I just was going to be in here to put down my things, and then I can leave I am so sorry," said the wavy haired girl. As the girl stammered on, all Fitz could do was watch, his own reflection in her eyes; they reminded him slightly of amber, a topaz fog. After at least another minute of the poor girl stammering on, she stopped for a breath, glancing at the silent boy in front of her.

"I'm Jemma, by the way. Jemma Simmons," she said with a shy smile and outstretched her hand to the shocked boy, still grabbing at his head. He took her hand in his.

"I'm Fitz, Fitz Leo….I—I mean, I'm Leo Fitz," said Fitz. Jemma laughed and said, "Hello, Leo Fitz," they exchanged a long smile, searching in each others' eyes for a possible friendship.

"Well," Jemma said to break the prolonged silence, "I'm going down stairs to grab a bite to eat, maybe a pesto sandwich…"

She gave Fitz a small wave and walked out of the room, closing the door behind her. Fitz laid back down on his bed, smiling unknowingly to himself. Suddenly, the bed didn't feel too uncomfortable anymore.

Jemma fumbled awkwardly on the steps from the dorm, still glowing red like a fire hydrant form her encounter with Fitz…or was it Leo…she didn't know. The thought of having a friend upstairs made her smile as she made her way down the long staircase to the main floor.

A/N: is this good? bad? ugly? I will not know unless you review!
