Kai POV

I am sitting alone for the first time without her by my side. Whenever I would be upset, she would gently place her hand on my shoulders to comfort me. Though I would calm down after this simple gesture of hers, I would detest her.

"Hn", I would say. "Why did you barge in without my permission? Just don't think that staying by my side allows you to get control of me. Stay away. Hope you understand that Hilary." She would chuckle at this because this because I had been repeating this over the past one year. I could care less about her chuckle and go about minding my business.

Being Kai Hiwatari, CEO of Hiwatari Enterprise was a huge responsibility. I hate myself now for thinking something like this. My business partners, staff and relatives told me that someone like me should not have middle class women by their side. I too started thinking of Hilary as being a hurdle to my ever-growing of success. Never did I even guess that she was the kindling force behind me that was always motivating me to do well.

I decided to get rid of her as soon as possible to remove any threats to my reputation. When I returned home, she was sitting on the couch waiting for me. She smiled at me and asked me to join her for dinner.

"I am not hungry."

"But you should eat otherwise you will feel lethargic tomorrow."

"I don't care a damn about it."

"But I do. Come." With that she came near me to get hold of my hand and I smacked it off. She was utterly shocked. But she didn't give up hope.

"Kai, I am sorry. But please don't sip your meals."

"Hn" I said and stomped off my feet and shut the door behind me.

This was my way of getting rid of her. Either I would say 'I am not hungry' or 'I have already eaten' as an excuse. She never got annoyed rather got worried about me. One fine day, she came to know about my relationship with Julia. That day I didn't see her at the couch waiting for me. I smirked at myself for having depressed her.

But to my dismay, the next morning she was as cheerful as ever. I couldn't bear it. I decided to finish it off.

"Hey you, leave me alone."

"Alright, I'll wait for you in the living room."

"I didn't mean that alone." She shot me a confused look.

"I said leave my house. I hate you. I never loved you. You were just a useless tool for me. Now since you have no use so just move out of my life."

"How could you say that with such a strai-"

"Shut up and leave." She soon left the house in a hurry. I called Julia and started my life with her. Someone called from the hospital to inform that Hilary had met with an accident on her way. I could care less and ignored her.

Life with Julia wasn't as expected. I got tired with her demands so I decided to bring back Hilary. I sped off to the hospital just to see her breath her last breath in front of me. She had succumbed to death due to her injuries.

I now stand beside her grave which reads,

I buried my head in my hands and cried for all the torture that I made her undergo. I had missed my chance. I grieved over my fault. Suddenly I got up and mumbled to me, "You were so worthy, I never realized."
