I woke up. In the streets of what appeared to be Shibuya.
I checked my cell phone. A new text? "Reach the Statue of Hachiko. Make a pact and defeat the noise. You have 120 minutes. Fail and face erasure. –The Reapers"
A red timer appeared on my hand.
The heck's a Reaper? What's going on? How do I defeat the noise?
Whatever. I reluctantly headed to Hachiko. I looked down at my cell phone, played a random track. Déjà vu. Haven't played that song in a while. I plugged my ear buds in.
A boy about the same age as me. He had spiky orange hair. He was wearing purple headphones.
I was about to walk over to him to ask about the Reapers until a bunch of random frogs appeared.
The heck? Are these frog things noise? How am I supposed to fight back?
"Hey you! Glasses and ear buds! You think you can fight the noise by yourself?" The boy yelled at me.
"Err...I wasn't really planning to!"I shouted back. More frogs appeared. I could only dodge their attacks.
"How am I supposed to fight back?" I just barely evaded an attack.
"Make a pact! Hurry!" He said angrily.
"Okay! I accept!" I shouted desperately.
The boy and I were surrounded by pillars of light.
2 pins appeared in my hand.
I concentrated on the frogs and on the pins. Suddenly, a wall of flames engulfed the frogs and they disappeared.
"Did I do that?" I exclaimed.
"Those used to be my old pins, they're called Blue Blood Burns Blue and Electricity Warning" the boy nodded.
"Anyways, care to explain what's going on, headphones?" I asked, looking around.
"First off, my name's not headphones. It's Neku. Neku Sakuraba" The boy muttered.
"Okay, Neku. My name's Hikari. Hikari Izuko. What's going on? What's up with this weird text?" I held up my cell phone, showing him the text message.
"We're in the Reaper's game. You see, we're already dead. The Reaper's game is a way to win your life back. We have to survive for 7 days, doing missions every day. Those pins are player pins. You use them to fight the noise, which are the monsters you just fought. We get the missions through mission mails, which are the text messages from the Reapers" Neku explained.
"So, basically, survive for 7 days, do missions, fight the noise, and win your life back? Seems pretty simple" I said.
"It's not as simple as you think. Anyways, we made it to Hachiko, made a pact, and we defeated some noise. The mission should be over" Neku replied.
The timers on our hands disappeared with 20 minutes left.
"One day down, six to go" I said. "Wait, Neku, how do you know so much about the Reaper's Game?" I asked.
"I've been in the Reaper's game before" Neku mumbled.
"But how?" I wondered.
