The Boy Who Calls Himself Death

*I got the idea from a chart conversation with my friend Jess, who knows nothing about Duo (only Stupid Wufei). She asked me why he proclaims himself Death. Well I don't know. But I guess because...(read the fic). All this background info is from the offocal Gundam Manga Series, Episode Zero.

It was that day, the day that the Maxwell church was "attacked".
It was the only home he'd ever known. They just took him in. They gave him a home, the Preist and Sister Helen. They gave him everything. When the Sister tried to cut his hair, the Preist stopped her. They let him keep the long hair. It was a church, so they taught his about God. Yet Duo said he didn't belive in God. He told them if there was a god, then there would be no war, and he'd have parents. Duo also told them the only God he belive in, was Shinigami. The God of Death. A year from that day, when Duo was eight years old, that's when the Maxwell church was attacked.
It was the federation. The came in, shot the preist with a riffle, and slapped Sister Helen. Duo overheard then saying they only needed one mobile suit to assure the freedom of the people. Duo decided he'd take on the task. Soldiers chased him, tried to shoot him. But he still managed to get the mobile suit. In the end 245 people died, including the Maxwell Preist, and sister Helen. Duo was the only one who survived. They locked him up in a cell. The guards said he must have "made some deal with Shinigami". Years later Duo is a stowaway on a ship, where he is causght. That's when he now announces his "last name". He may run, He may hide, but he never lies--Duo Maxwell. It is also when he annouces that he is Shinigami.
It is three years later now. He's a former Gundam pilot, living with Hilde.
"Hilde, do you miss the War?" He asked.
Hilde gave him the 'what are you talking about' look. "Miss war? No. Why, do you?"
"It's not really the war I miss. I miss being the God Of Death. Shinigami."
"God of Death? What is it with you and Death Duo?" she asked. "You proclaim yourself Death, but yet, you wear a cross."
"The cross sybolizes the Maxwell Church," Duo answered. "And I am the God of Death, Shinigami. I live with all the guilt of my past. Anyone who gets close to me, dies. And then somehow I get blamed. So I take the pain in."
"Are you saying a the Devil had possesed you?" Hilde asked.
Duo sighed. She clearly didn't get it. He WAS Shinigami. "No. Just nevermind."
"Okay. Well if you don't want to talk, I'm going shopping," said Hilde.
"Okay. See you when you get back."
"Bye," she says, grabbing the car keys, and walks out the door.
"If you only knew Hilde. all the guilt through-out my whole life. Not only do people die close to me, but I kill people," Duo sighed, and retired on the couch.
