Disclaimer: I do not own Event Horizon, any characters, places, or ideas. I just write this fanfic.

Warning: dark themes, morbidity, language, disturbing images, etc. Everything that was in the movie, plus a little. If you don't like any of this stuff, then don't read this fic.

Author's Note: I liked Event Horizon, for the most part. That is why I am writing this fic. This is my own interpretation of the movie's ideas, and where I wanted it to go. If you loved the movie just as it was, this fic probably isn't for you, as I'm changing quite a bit.

EVENT HORIZON

A Weak Signal

It was the middle of the night when the phone call came, a shrill ringing in the near empty room.

With a jolt, he sat up.

At the first sign of movement the lights turned up, fading from blackness to full illumination. The cream hued room slowly came into focus, ringing continuing to scream. Rubbing his fingers against his eyelids, he reached over with his other hand, pressing the button.

He had had another dream about her.

The message played back over the nighttime silence, words hanging on the air. The words ran through one ear and out the other, nothing sticking in his dream hazed mind. Nothing, until the words Event Horizon boomed from the speaker.

His heart skipped a beat. "What did you say?"

"We've located the Event Horizon!"

Drawing in a shaky breath, he wetted his lips, running sweaty palms across his sheets. It had been six long years. He had given up hope. "And her crew?"

"The signal is weak. We'll need to send a salvage ship."

"Arrange for the team then! How quickly can we pull one together? I must see her!" He was practically shouting into the microphone, but he couldn't help it. The Event Horizon, his dream in physical reality, was back. He wanted to know where she had been for these past six years.

"It's the middle of the night, Doctor."

His eyebrows furrowed in, narrowed eyes locking on the digital clock display. It was. This could not wait, though. He would not have wanted it to wait. "I'm sure someone's up. Arrange for the team. I want to hear the roster in the morning, you understand?"

"I warned you…" The messenger hung up with a beep, leaving the doctor to his silent apartment again. With a shaky sigh, he forced himself to lay back down, trying futilely to calm the shaking of his body. Though the lights dimmed down again, he knew he would not be able to get back to sleep.

In the morning, he would start preparation for his journey out to see her.
