"Stupid, stupid, stupid!" Jo cursed herself.

She always managed to mess things up and her latest adventure had been no exception. She knew that a lot of the boys at UNIT thought of her as a dolly bird and perhaps, she thought, they were right.

She sighed slightly, looking around the workshop. The Doctor was working at the bench, tinkering with a complicated looking gadget. She loved how absorbed he became when he worked. He seemed to totally forget the presence of anyone else and would sometimes talk or sing to himself. There were a lot of things she loved about the Doctor. The way he was always willing to protect her for one.

Just then his voice cut through her thoughts. "Do you want something, Jo?"

She realised that she had been staring and blushed. "Sorry," she mumbled.

They remained silent for a minute or so, then Jo piped up again. "Doctor, do you think I'm stupid?" she asked tentatively.

"What on Earth would make you think that?" he asked in surprise.

"Because I always muck things up or say the wrong things," she replied, beginning to feel slightly tearful.

"Of course you're not stupid," he said with a smile. "I only take the best."
