CH 1

The cold wind coming off the hover crafts thick hull pushed through the narrow passages of the city alleys. Its the year 2200 and everything has changed. The Virus has wiped out nearly half of the US population. Only the rich or immune survived. Most people moved into the cities, where medicine and protection was more available to the public. The high rises scrape the clouds, while the government hovercrafts dart through the glass buildings. I flip the hood up on my worn trench coat up against the constant wind. The thing that changed the most in my 18 years in this dreadful city is the people. It is the norm to have a bionic limb or organ. The few "Purists" in the city are similar to a circus act or so Im told. Left and right there is a glow of electric blue or a sickly bright green. The time for simple pleasures has passed and it is a struggle just to get through the day. The lights coming from the roving police craft stop on a person just a street down from me. He panics. Like anybody would, we all know what happens when the Crafts come for someone. I sigh and duck into the dimm alley next to me. I glance back to see if anyone can see in this opaque light before I pull the hood of my coat down and left my strawberry blonde plaits fall on my shoulders. Most of the time I have my hair hidden. It is rare for someone to have red or even blonde hair in the god forsaken place. Everything is so bland and monotone it is pain full. I reach the dumpster and push it out of the just enough to open the door into the HotSpot. It's one the few things that was left behind by pre-Virus society, I found it by accident when I was 15 and rebellious. It once was a basement and store room but is now filled with monitors and flat screens. A hackers paradise where most anything is possible. Kai lifts his bionic eyes from his screens to flash me a hello smile. His salt and pepper hair and warm demeanor has been apart of my life since before I can remember. I swiftly pull of my coat and toss it on an empty chair. I glance at Kai's screens before making my into the back. My cube is larger and more able to handle the big jobs some clients ask for. I move the mouse briskly before the home screen blips up, a pic of sister, Elsa, and I just before everything fell apart. I bit my lip hard before the tears can come, I haven't seen her for three years. She just up and disappeared one night, no letter, no goodbye, gone. We were so close. I gulp down the emotion before opening the Net. And scrolling, getting engulfed in the virtual world of gibberish and politics. An indigent cough brought me back out of the oblivious. My teal eyes met his hazel ones. "Hi" I squeak, he is handsome, regal and nothing like the usual men who come in, I am utterly shocked that he even knew how to get to this part of town. Out of the of my eye I see Kai standing behind the man, "Sorry lady Anna, he left himself in" he speaks briefly before returning to his cube.
