Yao opened his eyes, which took all of his effort and looked around at his surroundings. He must have been in a hospital, but found himself in his room. Upon feeling the hand that held his, he expected Ivan to be next to him, he found a sad and injured Kaoru at his side to his surprise, not the large Russian he had secretly fallen for, "Kaoru...Ai yawhat happened to you?"
Kaoru lifted his head from the blankets and hugged Yao, careful of his injuries, " I'm so happy you're alive. I'm sorry. I should have tried to help sooner...I'm sorry momma..."
Mamma...Yao hadn't heard that since Kaoru was a child, " What do you mean? What happened?" Kaoru looked at Yao, "Kikutried to murder you. In front of Im and Mei. I stopped him..."
Yao instantly remembered, Kiku had him at sword point, Im and Mei begging for Kiku to let him go, Kiku getting ready to kill him, bring his katana down and...

( four days before...the day of the attack)
Yao sat, bound into place as Kiku came up with Im and Mei, his siblings he had forced into subordinates, and looked at Yao, katana sheathed, "Do you know why you're bound like this?" Yao looked up at the country he had raised, " You're trying to break my will, so i'll side with you."
Kiku's expression was serious and Kaoru stood behind Yao, also a forced subordinate, as Kiku unsheathed his katana, " Today you are finished Yao, China will fall with your death." Mei and Im looked to their brother terrified, "Kiki please reconsider Yao is our mother!"
Kiku merely ignored his siblings raising the katana as guards held Im and Mei back, " There is nothing to reconsider, Goodbye Yao." Yao closed his eyes as the katana came down only to hear the sound of metal hitting metal, "Who gave you the right to play God?! I won't allow you to hurt our mother!"
Yao looked up surprised to see kaoru defending him with Yao's own metal flag pole, the flag was around Yao's shoulders, " I'm not your plaything anymore Kiku! I won't let you kill Yao! If you want to you'll have to kill me first!"
Kiku tried to knock Kaoru from in front of Yao but Kaoru knocked him out as Ivan arrived, " We have to leave Kaoru. Grab Im and Mei, I'll get Yao." they fled and yao passed out in Ivan's arms.
(present day in Yao's room)
Yao looked at Kaoru and held him close, " You were prepared to die for me...don't do that it's stupid. I"m sorry I didn't save you like I promised." Kaoru looked up at Yao, " You did. I found my strength when I defended you."
Yao smiled and the allies came into his room, all of them worried. As the chaos of questionsstarted Yao knew only one thing, Kaoru saved his life, he'd been saved from his demise by un unexpected savior.
