He knew from the moment their lips touched; this would be it. This would be the only time he would be allowed to do this. The only time he'd be allowed to touch her, to kiss her, to hold her.
He would savor it all. Not the sex, but the tender moments. He liked the way her skin felt beneath his fingers. He liked when she shivered as he kissed her neck. He loved the content smile that appeared on her face while he rubbed her back.
He kissed her on the forehead while she slept. Dawn came too quickly, its light abruptly calling an end to a perfect night.
He pulled his clothes on and draped a blanket over her, the only woman he had ever loved and the only one couldn't have.
"Goodbye for now, Lily." And then he was gone.
A cool breeze made her shiver and reach out for him in her sleep. The sheets were still warm, but there was no one there. She opened her eyes to find the room empty and cold.
"Sirius?" She called out, but got only the chirping of birds as an answer.
