Disclaimer: I er...don't own anything that you recognize…unfortunately sigh, those are all J.K's. I hope you all like this. I, personally, am thrilled with it...I guess that's because I wrote it but oh well lol.
Draco Malfoy didn't believe in love at first sight. It had been drilled into him early on in his life that he would fall in love with whomever his parents, mainly his father, deemed fit to be betrothed to the only Malfoy heir after they were married. Draco had always shuddered at that thought but had accepted that to be just another fact of life. All of that, of course, changed when, in his fifth year, Lucius was sentenced to Azkaban as well as The Kiss. The younger Malfoy was still confused on the charges brought upon his father but because he saw freedom within his reach, he didn't press the issue, opting instead to simply attend the 'ceremony' for The Kiss and give the proper amount of sympathy towards his father, who seemed rather unchanged by the procedure, an action that further supported his sons thoughts that he had already given his soul to the Dark Lord.
After his father's death just after graduation, he began to test the boundaries that the older man had set. First it was going to a muggle bar, which he enjoyed and still did occasionally; then it was taking a muggle cooking course, something he'd always wanted to do but didn't dare even think about in his father's presence; lastly, he had fallen in love. It wasn't the mushy 'love at first sight' that muggles and wizards alike swore by, it was a love slowly built from friendship. He'd fallen in love with her after a solid seven months of dating and had told her his feelings the night she accepted his proposal. He loved her still, after two years, and knew that even though it wasn't love at first sight, it was the love that everyone had dreamed about when they were young. They fit together perfectly.
No, Draco didn't believe in love at first sight, at least he hadn't until last night. He'd fallen in love with the girl in his arms as soon as she had looked at him with large brown eyes. He'd melted and was drawn to her as a moth to flame, unable to look away from her until he held her in his arms, which he'd been doing for the past hour. He found it hard to breathe as she looked up at him with love already in her eyes and he knew that his gaze held the same look. He glanced around to see if anyone had witnessed the exchange and looked back down when he saw the only other person in the room was silent and looking on with a knowing smile.
Draco bent and placed a small kiss on her forehead before he passed his newborn daughter to his wife, who held the small child to her breast and began to feed her. He watched in fascination and trailed a finger softly down the small slightly concave cheek of Raily Jane Malfoy. She was perfect; she was theirs, a perfect blend of the Gryffindor princess and the Prince of Slytherin.
He was in love. A heart breaking, unconditional love that he'd never experienced so quickly and one that slightly scared him, a love that he never experienced as a child.
Draco Malfoy smiled at his small family and felt his heart swell. If he hadn't known what love was before this moment he would have felt the overpowering feeling instantly and wondered how he could have ever lived without it.
He understood now what the muggle movies his wife forced him to watch were truly about. He knew now what so many poets wrote about in the poems he'd scoffed at in the primary school he'd been forced to attend before Hogwarts.
Draco Malfoy, finally, believed in love at first sight.
So...what did you think? Please let me know.
