What Is Blue and Gold?

A Zuko/Katara poem

What is blue and gold but the feathers of a bird?
What is blue and gold but the sun and the sky?
What is blue and gold but a reflection in the water?
What is blue and gold but a tear in his eye?

What is blue and gold when the pain is over?
What is blue and gold when the fighting is done?
What is blue and gold if they hate each other?
What is blue and gold when the war has been won?

What is blue and gold but two halves of a whole?
What is blue and gold but the eyes of a mask?
What is blue and gold but two types of a coin?
What is blue and gold but the deadliest task?

What is blue and gold but the glimmering snow?
What is blue and gold but the wing of a dove?
What is blue and gold but a modest mirror?
What is blue and gold but their forbidden love?

Though they seem separate,
These colors are the same,
For who is to say that
Blue is not the boy, and gold, the dame?
