Susan walked into the house. The Halloween party was already in full swing. There was loud music, and everyone seemed to be having a good time.
She looked to the left and saw Hannah and Neville talking. She smiled at them. The couple was surprising since they barely said two words to each other while attending Hogwarts, but they dated for almost twos and now they were engaged. The relationship might have come out of nowhere, but they were definitely perfect for each other, and even though she was a bit jealous, Susan couldn't be happier for her best friend.
She wished she could find that special someone that was perfect for her. As if just thinking that, her eyes were pulled to the vision that was over by the snack table.
Fleur Delacour. Susan shook her head. Not Delacour. Weasley. It was still hard to think about Fleur married.
Fleur wore a costume that made her look like a princess. It showed her bare midriff and her gloriously long hair was up in a intricate style.
She looked beautiful. Then again, she always looked beautiful.
Susan had been in love with Fleur ever since she met the older witch. She knew it wasn't her Veela allure as females were immune to it but honest love.
At the time, she was a shy fourteen year old and unlike the idiotic boys, she didn't dare tell Fleur how she felt. There was no way a beautiful seventeen-year old would ever look at plain fourteen-year old Susan Bones.
It didn't stop her from watching Fleur, or being envious of Roger Davis when he got to escort Fleur to the Yule Ball.
Fleur was everything Susan wanted and everything that wasn't meant to be hers.
When Susan found out about Fleur's marriage, she had been heartbroken. She had refused to leave her house for days, but Hannah finally coaxed her out for some fresh air.
It was than that Hannah found out about Susan's feelings and allowed herself to be used as a shoulder to cry on as Susan grieved for an opportunity she never truly had.
And even now, years later, Susan still mourned for what could have been, but was never meant to be.
She hadn't been able to move on, and as of right now, it felt like she'd grow old alone.
A hand rested on her shoulder, and Susan turned to face Hannah. "Come with me."
And she knew that Hannah realized that Susan hadn't yet moved on.
Love might not be on the horizon, but at least she had friends. With one last lingering look at Fleur, Susan followed Hannah and joined in on the conversion she and Neville were having.
